upper intake 2 pleum leak

OK guys I know this is simple but, I have owned my TY for years. Removed pleum countless times, never used a sealant. Cleaned and replaced it a few days ago massive leak at back of pleum. Torqued to 17lbs. Should I use a sealant. Any advice would be helpful.

There is a gasket that goes there. Do you have one? I wouldn't not use one.

Stab it and steer it

Couple of guesses: Something got under it while it was being installed? Gasket slipped?

Gonna pull it Friday morning. Just never happened in the past. Im going take a straight edge to it to measure for flat surface.

maybe there was a small piece of the old plenum gasket still attached? Or when you bolted in down some wiring or a vacuum line got pinched under there? It doesnt take much to make them seal. I couldn't imagine it warping unless you had it welded.

Gasket has always came off cleanly no rips no bits left attached. I have a spare gasket. That I will try. Was hoping someone may have had this problem and had a quick fix. Thanks for replying.

Did you get the vacum lines back on the 90 degree nipple back there?

Re: upper intake 2 pleum leak

I would try the other gasket you have because it's not an area that's typically prone to leakage. If that fails use some Permatex Right Stuff.. it'll never leak again

I'm gonna be the pessimist and say cross threaded bolt hole in the lower manifold keeping the bolt head from making full contact not allowing it to seal. Or something in a bolt hole keeping it from sealing up. Any chance that you got a longer bolt in the mix?

Well I pulled everything apart. Replaced gasket with spare I had. Leak is gone. Small amount of damage on gasket that I removed. Thanks to all that offered advise.
