Re: C5 Corvette 18" & 19"
I spent some time on
Tirerack's website and I think you'll find your information there. Consider the stock 245/50R16s were 25.6" tall and went 811 rpm (revolutions per mile). If you want to keep the same stance and gear ratio (and speedometer calibration), you'll need to match those numbers.
There aren't many choices close to our height on a 19" rim. The aspect ratio dips pretty low - you'll be looking for a 25 or 30 aspect tire. Lets say you choose a 325/30/R19. The tire is 26.7" tall and goes 780 rpm. This tire only turns 4% slower than factory and should work assuming you're ok with the 1" height increase. Now the challenge is to find a 18" tire to fit your width rim and match the 780 rpm. A 275/40/R18 I checked is 26.6" tall and turns 786 rpm. VERY close, but close enough?
Having different size wheels and tires on corvettes isn't an issue. On an awd truck, even small differences
may cause problems. I don't have a working knowledge of our transfer cases and viscous clutches. On a truck w/ traditional transfer case, a small difference would cause binding. On ours, it may cause overheating issues with the constant slip and premature wear of the viscous clutch. Maybe an expert can chime in...
Good luck, hope this helps!
