I spent all day today installing A RPM coil over kit. I think i have a idea how im going to install limiters, but id like to see some pics of what some others in the community have come up with. What you got!!!!! If any of you have seen my truck run in person you know why i need to do this. Thanks

Re: Suspension limiters.ideas????

The length of the QA1 shock in the Coilover kit act as a suspension limiter.

Re: Suspension limiters.ideas????

i am going to run limit straps. kinda like really thick seat-belt material. they stretch a little(about 1") and dont have that metal to metal contact or feel. much smoother. they sell tons of different lengths from 4" to 36"+. i am going to run mine from the shock eye to shock eye.

They can also be used as drive shaft loops. They retail around $20 and a little more if you want real beefy ones. These are an off-road thing but work great anywhere.

Oh, and btw, if you use the shock as a limiter, you stand a chance of eventually pulling the cap off the shock. i dont suggest using it as a limiter.

Re: Suspension limiters.ideas????

I thought you did not need them with coilovers?

There is still way to much travel for drag racing. I dont really drive my Ty on the street to much anymore since i have my Sy for that. Id like to limit it to 4" for racing.

I run leaf springs in the back with battle bars.

Ive been 1.51 60 ft with stock front suspension and the B bars. thrers just to much transfer rearwared, the front tires smoke the first 50 ft.

Better rear suspension will net you what you desire . Coilovers in the back with either ladders bars or 4 link stop that squat'n'go effect .
I'll get you the measurements of my ladder bars if you ever want to make the swap .

Im running the old Al D. kit . Marty hooked me up with it a few years back .

It really wouldnt be too hard to duplicate .

Hi Mike,

I would appreciate any info or photos you could supply. Does this kit use the front leaf spring bracket for the front ladder bar mount? What needs to be welded to the frame, just a panhard rod bracket and upper shock mount tube.

thanks,

Re: Suspension limiters.ideas????

Id like to see that as well. Im thinking ford 9" or a built 8.8 rear to support the new power. Ladder bar be nice.

The kit does use the front leaf mount bolts and only a few spot need to be welded to the frame .The axle brackets , the upper shock tabs , and the panhard bar mounts . On the axle brackets , theres another piece not shown i had made that makes the bracket 360* the entire axle . Heres a few pics .

Re: Suspension limiters.ideas????

ladder bar may be a good alternative for several of you, I would suggest everybody add a safety loop in front as seen in this pic. Technical it isn't NHRA legal without that, and if you break a heim joint, can put you in a very bad postition.

Re: Suspension limiters.ideas????

on a 68-69 camaro. runs 9.30's.

i made these chromoly tube arms for it. i dont have pics of the limiters, but this is what i ended up doing.

hopefully the pic explain it better then i can...lol.

i made a tab with a nut (brown) welded to the bottom of it. i gusset'ed it on each side. used a bolt and welded a big washer on the top. so that it would thread in, down through. my one buddy messes with rubber stuff and made a sweet ass rubber bump stop on top ot the washer (in red).

all i had to do was use another nut for a jab nut. (brownish/gold color, on bottom).

i have been tempted to make a few syty tube arms, but i wasnt sure if anyone would be interested or not. since they allready have a coilover kit.

That is very similar to what I did on mine. I want to crank it down a little tighter for the next time at the track. I have stock control arms though, you would have to do as suggested and attach a mounting point on the controll arm for the bolt and a place for the bolt to hit on the frame.

This isnt a new idea, our 55 chevy pro street car was made into a drag car in the 1960's and they were doing this then...

Re: Suspension limiters.ideas????

Doesn't somebody make a 90/10 shock but with reverse valveing? This would help limit the front end lift to some degree and also make the ultimate lift slower.
