National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park

Since Keller posted this link the other day, I figured I'd share. I have a friendly repore with the NCM from dealing with them for the NATS, plus they enjoyed us being there since we were an easy event for them. I'd just paid them the final payment recently so i made a remark about the motorsports park...which then turned into some brainstorming on how else to raise $, which then led to the executive director emailing me asking me to write a letter on behalf of the SyTy NATS on how we'd benefit from utilizing the Motorsports Track for our event.

hmmm...interesting indeed.

So i just fired an email back to him with some more ideas. I've got pleeeenty of ideas for them, but i don't wanna just hand it all to them right away. besides, maybe i can negotiate some track time for us in lieu of my helping them. We'll see.

Anyway, right now they're doing personal/corporate sponsorships to "buy" acreage of the park. $15,000 lands you membership and some prepaid track time. I don't currently know the details of how much track time, but will be finding out. What is interesting though, is that we, as a SyTy group, can all pull funds together and buy us some prepaid track time if we were to raise $15k. I know i'd be willing to throw like $500 at this, as i'm sure others would too. So i'm suggesting that if we can get 30 people to donate $500, we could have ourselves a pretty wild meet, plus i'm sure we as a group would get our own brick and some publicity once the place is built.

I would also suggest that we have different levels of sponsorship within our group. For those unable to swing $500, but still want to be a part of it. I'd recommend 3 levels of $100, $250, and $500. Those wanting to give more would just buy multiple positions. What would you get for your contribution? Track time....varying amounts depending on what you donated. Until the NCM irons out their own detals, i can't really draft out legitimate details for our SyTy $15k...but i think it would be worth our efforts to do this. There has got to be 30 people here willing to donate $500.

Then, depending on whenever the track would be built, we could try to land NATS back in BG that year...and have ourselves a track meet. I see this as being a pretty incredible opportunity as a group. So please chime in and let me know your thoughts. Regardless of whether or not we are able to come up with the $15k, i'll be attempting to squeeze myself onto their brainstorming committee and continue to bounce ideas off of them...to further help our possibilities of utilizing the track for a Syty event.

I think it would be a great chance for syty to get some motorsport publicity and create bonds with a place that we can help and can help us.

Can you imagine a nationals with the flexibility we had at drag racing, the local town environment, track racing, indoor museum gathering point, and a warm welcome from those places?

Not sure what else we could hope for for a nats.

I would be in for a group deal for sure, being 100 miles away surely helps me also.

Feel free to give them JSM crews names if they want some local ideas, help, etc.

Not to be a pessimist, but I have seen a number of these car guy country clubs proposed, but not so many end up being built. Local govt's end up ruining it for everyone. If we as a group were to get involved, I would make sure we have an out. I love the idea and will be a participant but just would like to excersize caution.

I could agree with you, being Bowling Green and the home of Corvette and them being proud of it I see this one having a better than average chance.

They are building another similar track north also in KY and they actually have pavement down now. http://www.drivebluegrass.com/

But your concern is valid and should it not happen we do need an out, money returned etc.

i would in no way be setting up some ponzi / pyramid scheme. I would run it as a non-profit organization (i.e. tax free) with all contributing members being on the board. Fees would be collected to assure slots, but not dispersed to the NCM without a safe/binding contract that would insure our $ against being lost due to a scrapped project or other unforseen event.

Trust me, I would treat $15,000 as if it were my own - no one would be running away with our money.

Re: National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park

would we "own" part of the property or lease it for a certain amount of time?

I'm a bit confused as well, as to what we'd be getting for the $15k. Track time once? Once a year?
Track time-share-like?

While I can certainly appreciate the effort, I find it tough to believe that they'll find 1500 $15k donors.
Maybe I'm way off base on this, but in a tough economy where people are out of work and corporate "fluff" is being cut out, it seems that the pickin's might be slim.

The museum itself looked to be down quite a few vehicles from past days.

*EDIT*... I see the details now... sooo, once you use up the $15k, you're done.

But mike, you seem like the perfect leader of a ponzi scheme. all jokes aside, If you need any help with this venture please let me know. I would like to become more involved with this site and its members.

i'm pretty sure that one of the sections of the museum was being revamped when we were there, and was closed off. Plus they added the big 4 player game and some other things that took up vehicle space.

Like i said, i don't know all the details, as i've only just begun to speak w/ the NCM about this. I'm just trying to offer some ideas to them, and hopes that it benefits SyTy land

you gotta also remember that there will be some people that will probably donate $1M of their own money to something like this just to get the recognition. I agree that there is no way they'd find 1500 donors, which I why I am trying to discuss other viable options to raise the $20M.

I agree, but with it being the NCM backed, I can see very high chance that it will be sucessful. If anyone will get something like this built I would put my money on the NCM. The NCM itself was built on donations from Corvette owner and clubs. (as far its get no donations from GM) each of its land/museum additions have been acquired through fundraisors, so they have a track record of sucess. Their is a lot more money in the Corvette World.

Ya but all it takes is one fuzzy haired albino lady bug to be found on the site for the environmental groups to swoop in say that they will be irreparably harmed by the land development to kill the whole thing. I have seen it happen to cell sites which are a much smaller foot print. I hope this thing goes through, I really do. Money is critical, but not everything.

Well they already have a Drag Strip in BG and I sure they are aware of the tourism the NCM and the Corvette Plant bring to the area.

ok, i'll be keeping a list of those willing to contribute $500 to this. Remember, nothing is set in stone, so agreeing at this point does not bind you to anything.

that said, if you have no real motivation to be a part of this, or think you'll be backing out at some point...please don't say "i'm in"
