can anyone tell me what sensor is on the drivers side cylinder head, near the exhaust manifolds.

its a one wire sensor, white body(if this helps) idea of connector view( -I ). green wire in color. my truck has autometer water temp gauge as well, and thats on the passenger head. i know the one in the intake manifold is for the ecm.

correct....its only for the gauge on the dash. If you like, take a quick tour of the below document and trace green wire #35 from the sensor all the way to "TEMP" in your gauges. Start on page 7 of the below diagram.....QUICK STORM said:

All that sensor does is send signal to the gauges....if your gauge is flaky, or WAY out of whack, it might point to the sensor. That being said, when I bought my first Ty; it read pretty dang hot all the time. I ran Datamaster and the ECM was reading 180, but the gauge was reading much higher; 200+ (in a vermont February mind you.). It ended up actually being the gauge, not the sensor that was the issue. If you have no gauge reading, probably the sensor. If the needle bounces or is absolutely bonkers off, proabably the sensor. If there is a difference between the gauge and what a scantool says....50/50 on a bad sensor or bad gauge.

Do this....take a new sensor, put some thread sealer on the threads and have it ready to toss in. Put a rag under the old sensor, unscrew it and quickly toss the new sensor in the hole. You'll undoubtedly lose some coolant, but A) not a lot, and B) its WAY easier than draining off coolant from the bottom of the radiator. If you need one, lemme know; I have a spare kicking around I can toss in the mail to you...$FREE.99.

yeah....should be $1-2 for the envelope and postage to send it off, so don't worry about it. It is single wire sensor on the drivers side; the one that runs the gauge. PM me your mailing address and I'll try my best to get it out to you tomorrow AM.hatrik8 said:

The gauge is definitely different on a Saudi Ty...sensors are probably identical though, and the gauge cluster / temp gauge reads it and displays it its own way.army helo pilot said:I'll pay you $2.50

Tested it today and the gauge is A-OK.
I shorted the sensor lead to ground and it went way hot and I got a code 14, so looks like the sensor went bad which i find incredible - a thermsitor is just a piece of metal i thought. No matter.
The new one goes in next week! What is the best access for it?
