Confused about tuning....keep chip AND tune?! --

Hey guys, right now I have an ultimate chip (stock tune), and a 3 bar map that I havent installed. Well I decided to modify my Sy alot more than originally intended (heads, cam, turbo, a/a, headers, exhaust, 1.6rr's, 65# injectors, ect). I already have a mechanic that wants to TUNE my truck.

So my question is....do I get the Ultimate installed AND get a tune .... or just install the 3 bar map (for the added PSI of my pte63 turbo) and get a "personal" tune done on my OBD1?!

It would be nice to sell the Ultimate for the tune money if I really dont need it. THANKS ---

He said this will be his first Syclone, lol ... this is a CAMARO shop really. He is familiar with turbos, nitrous, and superchargers though. I cant find a good SYTY shop in STL. ---

why not do it your self?

if you are going to take it to somone, i would definitly want the tuner to have some kind of syty experience.

I havent tuned (besides my carbed 67rs by hand, lol) and I havent purchased that tuning program ( to burn in the chips ). I have datamaster, but thats it. I figure let a "pro" get atleast my baseline done, then I can tweak it from there after buying the rest of the stuff I need....thanks for the tip :) ---

The guy might be great, he might know even less than you do.

With code 59 scheduled to be opened up soon, no reason to not learn yourself.

i did not know crap about tuning either, i still dont know much, but i can kind of get around now.

put the money that you were going to pay the tuner into the equipment needed.(not much $250-300, as long as you have laptop)

hell i ended making money after i sold my ultimate and bought the ostrich & adapter.

Re: Confused about tuning....keep chip AND tune?! --

I read somewhere that if I get 75# injectors I could get rid of code 59...is code 59 a code saying "tune needed"?! . Why 75# inj, ... just easier to tune? Fill me in .... thanks ---

Re: Confused about tuning....keep chip AND tune?! --

Code59 has some new features, improved features and a few bug fixes from the stock code.

It will allow for much more fine tuning of fuel curves, with more features hopefully added later.

WB o2 is also integrated, so no more patches.
Some boost control upgrades

The team that developed Code 59 decided it would be given away for free, BUT in exchange open sharing of calibrations is required and no selling of calibrations. The team wants tuning to be discussed and shared to further everybodies vehicles.

Expect it to be released soon, the website is just being finished up and documentation done.

I'm real new to the tunning thing. I go to Rolla, Mo alot maybe some weekend you could bring the truck down there and we could try something out. I will be tunning my Ty and have practiced on Jim Sloans Ty. So if you want to wait till my ty is done then I wont be so ruff around the edges. But I dont mind helping out another SyTyer.

Re: Confused about tuning....keep chip AND tune?! --

I would without a doubt tune it myself because your putting all this money into this truck and if it's not tuned correctly bad things could very easily happen so why risk it.

Plus this mechanic could possibly be awesome when it comes to carb'd setups etc but until you've owned and worked on a syty you don't really know them.. there not like first gen fbodies and such imo

Re: Confused about tuning....keep chip AND tune?! --

Code 59 comes from the mask #.

When GM designed the codes for vehicles they would assign vehicles a mask #. In our application our stock code was assigned 58 as the mask #.

Since we have reverse engineered and improved it, we just moved to code 59 since GM didn't use that # anyways.

Oh I see, thanks guys ... btw this shop focuses on 4th gen (lt1 and lt1 fuel injected) cars....but it is still FAR off from the Syclone. I am just starting to learn all the differences!!! ---

Re: Confused about tuning....keep chip AND tune?! --

The best rule of thumb for anybody working on these trucks is. If the person doing the work hasn't owned or doesn't own a syty, you will find a better source somewhere else.

I won't say it is 100% true, but maybe 99%.

Re: Confused about tuning....keep chip AND tune?! --

So the answer to my main question is....keep the 3 bar map sensor ... then do my own tune on code #59....then sell the Ultimate stock version for $300 and get a tuner/burner program? Right? Thanks guys ---

Re: Confused about tuning....keep chip AND tune?! --

I appreciate it :D ....I wasnt sure if the 3 bar had benefits if it wasnt used with a PIGGY BACK tune chip ... or DOES it need a chip to use the 3 bar , then you reflash the chip to YOUR tune?! ---

If you use a 3bar map then your chip has to be configured for 3bar.. read this it should help make more sense what the map is in relation to the chip.
