front coilover spring rate

I was wondering if anyone choose to go more than 600 pound rate?
Lowering the front of the truck past stock of course increases the hitting the bump stops.
But I wasn't sure if it would make for a harsh ride.

I have the QA1's set on 3 for the compromise from skipping and bouncing over bumps.

I don't have a higher spring rate, but in theory it should definitely make the ride harsher. You know if you think about it your putting in a spring designed to hold say 900lbs where only a 600lbs is needed.

My kit doesn't even use any bump stops, maybe they need trimmed down a little if your having trouble with them hitting alot??

I have 600lb springs in my coilover setup in my Ty. For these wonderfully NJ roads they are too stiff for me. I want a softer set. If you want to try a stiffer set, I also have a brand new set of 650lb Eibach springs I want to trade or sell.

I wouldn't go crazy with the 900lb springs.....just didnt know if anyone tried it.
Setting the shocks to a lower value might help out the strict ride.
Maybe the auto cross guys have tried a higher spring?


I did replace my bump stops and trimmed them a bit.
My next question would be is how far is too much to trim.
Which kit are you using that doesnt need them?

I know you didn't mean that high of a number, I was overexagerating it just so anyone who didn't know might better understand what a higher spring rate will do.

I have the RPM kit and it doesn't use any bump stops, doesn't even have a location for you to install them if you wanted to.

You should have bump stop on your frame which limits the lower A-arm travel. If you don't it will often take out the front cladding with out it.

The highest spring rate I have seen is 750 lbs....so I know you are exaggerating.
However, setting the shocks to a lower level will compensate a little for the harsh ride....maybe.

So I wonder if the shock/spring combo will bottom out before the tires will be able to hit the cladding.

I guess I will cut the bump stops some more if I were to get an estimate on height anyway.
I am afraid to run w/o them.

I use these little bump stops up front with two washers behind them..

They stop the wheels just before they hit the cladding. If you use them without the washers the tire will hit the cladding. I've found them to be much softer than stock and much less harsh when you do bottom out. I forget who makes them but I got them at A&A auto parts for ~$10..

You can see in the pic that I tried trimming the stock bump stops but that provided a horrible ride. It felt like I was hitting a brick wall every time the suspension bottomed out.. These little stops are much softer.

Yes, thats the name I coudln't remember.. They are made by energy suspension.. I think they had them in red too..
