I couldn't believe how cheesely the door handle was held on s-series trucks when I replaced mine in my old daily driver many moons ago...

You'll appreciate this...

Have a Ty here that I've been working on. A couple days ago, I go out to the garage to fire it up, no go. A quick check of the scan tool shows no DRPs. Bad ignition module.

Ok, easy fix. Pull the cap, pull the module. Next day, get a new module, and a new cap/rotor since the other was pretty ugly-green.

Get the module in, no problem. Put the rotor on, and the cap. As I'm whipping the 1/4" drive around to get the screws down towards tight, I hear *snap*. Huh?

Twisted the screw off at the dissy plate. Flush. No way it's coming out without pulling the dissy. I begin to hear voices from the Beer fridge in the corner, saying "come to me".

Ok, Time to go after the dissy bolt. Only, I can't get to it, because the line for the FPR return was on the wrong side of the dissy, over the hold-down bolt.

At this point, the voices from the Beer fridge in the corner became too loud to ignore.

So now, I gotta pull the IC to loosen the return fitting, so I can move the hose, so I can pull
the dissy, to fix the twisted bolt. Just to put a &*%^ cap and module on.

I'm truly afraid to pull the dissy, as I'm quite sure something metal will fall down the hole the instant I pull it.

Such is the way of SyTy maintenance.

Ever been stripping a wire and the piece shoots into the turbo? Yeah that's me.

How about building a trans and you drop a check ball and it falls INTO the geartrain area and you have to completely disassemble a trans to get the fu**ing check ball out. Yeah. Good times. It's not just syty's....it's mechanical stuff in general. If it rotates, slides, ratchets, locks, or fastens, it will break when you don't need it to.

I think they try to determine if we're worthy.... test our perseverance.

After 15 years, it's either that or stupidity.

Re: dammit now the door handle broke

My door handle recently broke at a time where the truck was constantly having problems. I had done the front diff, then had to do a bunch of steering crap, my tailgate lock handle fell off and then I take my daughter to the grocery store and when i went to get back in truck, the door handle broke off. I stomped like a kid and SHIT!!! I dont like to cus in front of my daughter but damn that pissed me off. I looked at her and she was trying super hard not laugh at me. Its all fun and games til you have to open your check book, swipe a card or get dirty.

What kind of chip did you get? Just wondering.

On topic: I have only had my truck a year, and have had the most frustrating time with it. I have had bolts fall into the trubo, and it kind of hard to change spark plugs if you have never done it before, I tried to do it without jacking up the truck or taking anything off! good god.

Re: dammit now the door handle broke

Door handle repairs are a PITA for the first timer. You'll break the little plastic clip that hooks to the actuator rod, try to find another, and end up buying another door handle assy. Happened on the S-15 after I had it towed.

Jackstands should've come standard with these things.:rotf:
