My sy vs a 520awhp STI this weekend?

Im basically being called out to race this STI by the owners friend. I know this guy well enough to believe what he's telling me. It put down 630 to the wheels on race gas and 520 on pump gas. The car had engine work and a bunch of other stuff done that im unaware of. I dnt have hp numbers or track time on my truck yet, just what the G-tec tells me. This race would be on pump gas for both.
My question is will my truck be competitive for this race or not?

With pump gas my truck runs consistent 122-123mph trap speed according to the Gtec. Usually 11.60- 11.70 E.T. with the tires spinning slightly when leaving. My mph tells me If I were at the track I should hit 10.90, obviously the street is gonna handicap me on the E.T.

I have no experience with these cars really. I beat a probably stock WRX really bad once but this is not the same animal. Does anyone know what these cars weigh? Can they leave as hard as a worked sy?

What do u have done to your truck? If your truck really does run a high 10 then yes u could give him a run for his money. But I wouldn't trust that time if that's what your G-Tech is telling you. Those things are usually pretty far off when it comes to 1/4 mile. Remember that those WRX's are AWD as well. So definately don't underestimate him. It would probably be a pretty good race and I wouldn't be surprised either way who won.

Oh, I just saw your list of mods by your signature. I stand by my previous statements, but I definately wouldn't race him for more then a Ben!

The gtec says 11.60-11.70 not 10's. From what I have read on the internet as well as on this forum here the Gtec is supposed to be really accurate. I was kind of looking for someone to verify this though. Like I said thats all I have to go by for now. I dont doubt the truck can run a mid 11 sec pass.

Id still like to know if an sti could pull as hard of a "launch" as a sy with the torque 4.3 liters can make over 2.5. I raced a 3000gt VR4 and he got out a hair more the first couple of feet of our extremely close launch but then his launch pulled his rpms down and i continued to pass him before he shifted into second. That was a "supposed to be a" 12.00 car

I have drag radials on the rear and the truck weighs 3520lbs with me in it.

FWIW, when I had my Syclone I went 10.85 @ 125 (with a mediocre 1.7 60'), so you're easily in low 11 second territory at your MPH.

Also, I had the first gen G-Tech, and while it was reasonably accurate with my other cars ('95 Cobra R, '99 Lightning), it was waaay off with my Syclone. I can only assume because of the hard launch these trucks are capable of. I don't know if your g-tech is like mine or an updated, improved version?

I don't pay too much attention to imports, but I know they can move with enough work. I just don't think he'll be able to launch as hard as you, plus he's gotta shift that thing as well. I realize he probably weighs less, but my $$$ goes on your truck. IMHO.:)

My stock STi has cut a 1.767 60'. I even had four 1.7's in a row (1.777,1.777,1.783.17676)....thats stock everything. So i know for a fact that that car can leave pretty damn hard.

This was my 2nd pass ever in the car, cutting a 1.83 60':

imo thats a pretty stout launch for a measly supposed 300ft lbs.

It will be close, but I think you can beat him especially if he doesn't shift perfectly (most likely scenario).

My friend has an '06 STi that is bone stock and has cut a 1.72 sixty foot at the track, but he spins quite a bit on the street with that hard of a launch. I killed him off the line in my stock Typhoon when we raced but he reeled me in around the 1000' mark.

I say go for it.

How are you going to verify that he's running pump gas? Smell his tank?

When I hear people talk about giving someone 3 car lengths, how do you measure that on the street? If someone cheats how could you tell?

Run what you brung and leave at the same time, ON THE STREET.

IF your at the track you can give someone a 2 second start or whatever. Those things can only be done fairly at a track.

I wouldn't want to have to trust someone to use pump gas or NOT to use nitrous even if there wasn't money on it.

:silly: Yes, im going to smell his gas tank lol. If you have ever raced a car with race fuel you can smell it....from the exhaust.

I never said anything about giving anyone car lengths? I plan on racing from the same point same time. Ive always done so.

Yes you are right, anybody can cheat. Its def possible. I dont plan on racing for money so its no big deal.

Do it up man! Make sure to get video too....520 awhp is no slouch but your truck should definitely give it a run for the money. STi's leave hard but Sy's leave harder. :D

Thats what im told, does sound high for pump gas but you can put a big turbo on anything. Yes, i was told on a chassis dyno

I ran high 11's to low 12's in my modified STi. I last dynoed it at 425awhp. With the right combo, these cars can do mid 11's pretty easy. The stock STi drivetrain can take alot too unlike the WRX. Got the cars weight down to 3025lbs.

520awhp is possible.
