Attention 4WD owners with Superchargers!

#10A. Swap your 4L60E transmission to the much stronger 4L80E transmission with our new
double strength case hardened output shaft and adapter kit.
You can use the computer you have now on 1998 up models with the use of our #10X wiring harness.
The transfer case you have now can be used as is and will be moved 1 3/4 to 3 1/2 inches to the rear. Cost $478.00

Buy the shaft alone for $355.00.
Buy the adapter alone for $123.00.

Re: 4l80e conversion.

shaft might, not sure on length. I believe that adaptor has the wrong angle built in to it.

Leaves you with crossmember, tranny brace, shift linkage left to figure out.

I am not one to tell you NOT to try your own thing, just know there is more than just a shaft and adaptor.

Re: 4l80e conversion.

No... Then you need another adapter after that. George Blake has explained this before. For the best one that you can get go to George. He has done more testing than anyone and has some great upgrades to the 4L80E that no-one offers.

If you dont use george at least use a syty vendor.

So you are saying the output shaft will work just need the correct adaptor (either from RPM or George)?

Re: 4l80e conversion.

Never had that shaft in my hands. Modified several stock shafts though.

George won't sell you pieces of a kit, only a full kit.

Never touched the RPM adaptor either (again built many of those). I suspect it probably works fine.

I am not building any 80e parts anymore, just enjoying my family and not worrying about parts for everybody else anymore. But long term unless you just like to fab things your best to buy it all from 1 place.

Re: 4l80e conversion.

I would not get that output shaft. Get in touch with George... For my 4L80e I bought the transfer case input shaft from George so that I could use a 32 spline shaft. Much stronger...

I 'heard' that the output shaft on the stock 4l80e 4x4 would be the weak part if you do this.

I had bought a transfer input shaft from George but then sold it back since my 700 was doing so good..

Re: 4l80e conversion.

Is the output shaft the weak link on a 4l80e, maybe. I suspect the stock 4x4 shaft is as strong, maybe stronger than a replined 27. Is this weak link stronger than just about every part inside a 700, I suspect yes.

Having designed a lot of the 80e retrofit parts initially, and installed 6 maybe more now, I can say there isn't a lot of options.

I pulled a 2wd 4l80e with the RV shaft that has the splines all the way down the shaft. That way all I have to do is cut it to length!!!

but if you going to do all that , wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to get George 27 spline output shaft kit and forget the transfercase input shaft part?

Re: 4l80e conversion.

To put the re-splined shaft in you need to take the tranny apart. I don't have to rebuild the tranny at all. Just add the adapter plate, cut the shaft, and put the transfer case in with the 32 spline input shaft! I went this way so that if I ever kill the tranny I can just drop in a junkyard 4l80 in fast! No need to rebuild the tranny to put in an output shaft...

Re: 4l80e conversion.

George, thanks for the explanation, I am sure other will also benefit from it.
I didn't meant to start a confrontation, I am just asking questions.
5k is a lot for me to dump at one time on my POS now, when I have other things going on that can use that money.

I am still not sure if I am going to do a 4l80 or just rebuild the 700 , I might even down-grade the ty it and get another car.

Re: 4l80e conversion.

I had no idea that you could get a 2wd tranny and just cut the shaft down. That's handy

the way george describes it, it woulf be more of a pain in the ass than worth it. i've learned my lesson piecing my damn truck together. just go with the vendors, saves a lot of headache. now if i can win the texas lottery i could afford the 4l80e from george....
