Re: 4l80e help

RPM (sytyperfermance) should have some i think they bought all of blake's parts or at least they had some 80e stuff almost just like black was selling.

Re: 4l80e help

Depending on which model 4L80e it is, you can can get a stock shaft and cut it down - I think. I think the 4wd ones have a longer shaft that just needs cutting if you don't want to pay for an RPM billet one.

You may need to do something to your transfer case though... there are lots of ways to skin this cat.

It does beg the question of what was going on inside if it was twisted. Is it a new unit? Did it run before you pulled it?

Re: 4l80e help

i bought the truck with the trans in it and it was driven and raced by me as for y it twisted that i dont understand my self the truck was not making that much power it only ran 11.80 maybe it was bent before i owned it i just dont know

Re: 4l80e help

They will twist some. Only one person has ever broken one (Jeff Scott) and he has a V8 and twin turbos. I would put it back in and run it. If, and it is a big If, does break it will not damage anything else.:2cents:

Re: 4l80e help

I might just do that maybe I will see if rpm has any of the 27 spline shafts left and if they don't then I more then likely run this one also should I run a billet input shaft or will that be fine I am guessing my truck will make around 650 to 700 when I turn the key again

Thanks

Re: 4l80e help

You mean on the transfer case?

A billet one will be better but perhaps just get your trans built and the truck running. You might find another setback in the transfer case and have probs.

I don't think Robert has a billet input shaft on his TC and he runs 8s. Could be wrong though. The TC has not proven to be the weak link over time.

Re: 4l80e help

No it is the output on the trans I guess they would respline a stock 80e output when they first started doing the swaps now I am hoping to find one of them instead of buying the TC input

Re: 4l80e help

Even if you put a new respline output shaft in the 80e it would twist in a short period of time. Most likely the 1st good boost launch!

If you decide to change the output shaft on the 80e you would want to go with a shorten by a 1 1/2" stock 80e output shaft (which are hardened) 32 spline and get a 32 spline input shaft for your transfer case.

As far as the billet 80e input shaft goes I would change it to one if you decide to change the output shaft on the 80e. I ran a stock input shaft for several years with zero problems. My truck was making 320 HP to wheels and 500 tq to the wheels at the time.( Dyno graph)

I would guess it had a couple hundred boost launches on it with no issues. At the end of 2009 I had some trans/converter issues and had the trans updated/freshend and installed a good billet input shaft at that time.

If it was my truck I would install the trans as is. If either the input shaft or output shaft breaks they will not damage any other parts of the trans or transfer case.:2cents:
