4L80e transfer case rebuild \ differences between cases (olds, sy, ty)

I know the differences are fairly well documented. But I have a question that more or less related to the 4L80E input shaft.

Since I have to install the input shaft into the TC anyways, do I even need to buy a Typhoon case to get the 32 spline output (I have a Syclone)? Shouldn't I just buy a new output shaft knuckle and put that on?

As far as I understand, a rebuild is very straight forward and very easy on these transfer cases and that would save me hunting around for a low mile Typhoon case.

Also, for the sake of testing my 4L80E input shaft, could I just use ANY 4472? Internally at that point they should all be the same right? Reason why is one of my neighbors (auto recycle shop) has an Astrovan case.

Thanks for the help guys!

You do not need a typhoon case to put the 32spline imput shaft in. It fits in the syclone tcase just as easy as the typhoon tcase. The only benefit of the 4472 is the 32 spline output shaft and the whole case is a little longer so you cant just put the 32 spline output shaft in. Whichever route you choose will be fine since you will already be shortening your driveshaft and lenghtening your propshaft.

As for the astro case, there are two versions, the 27 spline output shaft and the 32 spline output shaft so just check it out closely.
