99 firehawk

my buddy and i had a dispute over what was faster his 99 firehawk or my syclone. we decided to settle it the old fashion way with a street race. i built up about 10 pounds of boost (all my s-15 brakes could hold) he said go we both got sideways off the launch (him more than me) and as soon as i got traction i was off unfortunetly so was he. the firehawk was about two or three cars behind me but only for a couple seconds he blew past me when i hit 70. at 80 he had a car or two on me. afterwords he told me he couldn't hear his slp v8 over my launch and red lined 1st then dogged out second. we went back and checked out his 30 feet of burnt rubber.
next time we race i should have another 100 horses or so, so it will be a litle more even.

sweet, what mods do you have. a friend of mine has an 02 firehawk and that thing runs a 13.01 with it and it is bone stock. he can pull high 12's i know it. they are fast, we are faster.

Ah no sy/tys are not faster. They are faster modded BUT not stock for stock. Anything can be faster than anything else if they are modded?

Last time I checked the average sy was doing about 13.5's stock and most sys are not even that fast (13.5)

by the they are fast, we are faster i meant that as a group we have faster times, what is the fastest firehawk? what is the fastest syty? i did not mean stock for stock. if we weighed the same, oh yeah then we can talk stock for stock.

The avreage 99 f body is going to be faster than a sy/ty. I would guess the average sy ty is close to a 14.0. If you cant get an ls1 to do a 13.9 you cannot drive. The fastest sy/ty i have seen (havnt seen all of them) is about a high 9. I believe that the fastest ls1 is beyond 9s because there is a 9 second TA here is Sacramento. Please dont start complaing about weight and you only have a v6 and blah blah blah. If someone decides to race a 6 then that is what they race no excuses.

hey i completely agree about the
weight and you only have a v6 and blah blah blah
. as for the
I would guess the average sy ty is close to a 14.0.
I dont think so, i would actually say 13.4 would be the average, their are a lot of really fast ones and some in the low 14's. most in 13's and twelves. some in 11's, and very few in tens. even better one i beleive in 9's. lol. that is too fast for me.
actually something that i saw was a 94 firehawk for sale on firehawk.com for 15,000 with only 10,000 miles

I would have to disagree on the firebirds are faster on average because there are alot more v6 auto commuter cars sold then ls1/lti cars probably like 3 to 1 (just a guess no flames) so this could help or average

LS1s are quick... Be aware of them. You can kill em off the line but they can blow past you at mid track/big end.

Raced a NICE (too bad the owner was a tool) LS1 in NC last year that was running a 125 shot and a 6 spd. I completely raped him off the line but by mid track we were even. By the end he had me by ~2 cars. I was running 20psi, 108 octane, and driving myclone like I stole it. He was running low 90s MPH to my high 80s (1/8th mile).

My point? LS1s aint no slouch. Too bad the two lightning owners were WAY more cool than the tool driving the f bod.

what i use to my advantage when someone says they have a faster car, or they know so and so who has a faster car... i ask how much did they pay??? whenever i bring up the fact we can get a good running sy/ty for < 15k that pulls the same as a 25k or 30k car, it shuts them up.

If you think that the average syty runs a 13.4 you are sadly mistaken. We are not talking magazine reults we are talking real life. I have seen plenty of 15 second and mid 14 second trucks out there. Just look at most of the sigs of the users the average is not a 13.4. There are way more poor running trucks (due to cluless lazy owners) out there than good ones just look at he tech area.

Doomdead you might be able to get a good running sy/ty to pull for 15k but look at the reliability issues with them compared to say and ls1? And yes they pull from a stop but it takes alot of mods for them to pull hard from roll.

Myclone you are not kidding, a friend of mine has a 2000 TA with a few basic mods....lid, egr block off, exhaust, and a 3800 stall converter. he flies off the line. he is about to install his 150 shot and really kill some people. the way he stands he can beat the firehawk i previsoulsy spoke about, imagine with the nitrous.
so a 35-50 shot of nitrous would hurt us in stock application with 14-16 psi?

I dont really think a converter is a basic mod, my thought were if you cant put in on in less then an hour its not really basic , and if you think about it if you put the same money into a stock sy you could tune it to a mid 12 truck, yes the ls1 cars are badass but try to sneak by a cop you didnt see after getting antsy at a light for some reason my sy is invisible to cops no mater what im doing ken

ah after reading what i typed i understand that it came out wrong, i meant AND a 3800 stall converter, seperate from the basic mods, and it actually only took about an hour to install. regarding

that is the reason I love the typhoon, it is a sleeper for those who dont know, and their are many that do not.....

I own a 99 T/A and I love both LS1's and sy/ty's As far as stock for stock the LS1 should win hands down unless the driver is a complete moron. My car went 12.74 @ 110 with just an airlid and exhaust cutout. Lots of the '02 LS1's are running 12's bone stock. As far as sy/ty's having faster times as a group I would have to disagree there. I'm not sure what the fastest sy-ty runs but the fastest LS1 powered street drive vehicle is in the mid 9's at over 150mph. And there are probably many hundreds of LS1's in the 11's with just bolt on mods. I believe right now the fastest stock motor bolt on LS1 has gone 11.1 something.

Astock automatic ls1 against a stock syclone, i think 99 percent of the time a syclone would win . I just took my 2002 automatic ss with a factory rating of 345hp to the track and ran a 13.9, the car only has 250 miles on it so maybe when it breaks in it will be a little faster.
