I want to rebuild my tranny I blew. Is it possible to buy a kit anywhere, hartman or anyone, to do this job? Is it possible as I have zero experience doing anything near this. What would it cost about to do it yourself?

Thanks In Advance!

It depents on what do you wanna do.
I mean you can spend about 500-600 usd and do your job or start adding "super " things inside and go up to 2500-3000
I bought a manual from the net and did the repair, But i repair big truck engines for fun also
If you are familiar with things like this then you can do it ,but youll need some special tools i didnt have had and constracted them :(

It can be done BUT the key thing IMO, as was mentioned, is if you are mechancially inclined. If you can rebuild say a small engine or the like successfully(sp?) then you could prolly handle it if you take your time. If, on the other hand, you dont even like the thought of putting in a light bulb then it would prolly be better to let someone else do the rebuild/removal/instal.

Some special tools are required but they can be purchased or made if you have a decently equiped garage and youre not in a hurry to get the trans rebuilt.

Im NO expert on 700s and have only recently rebuilt my second one. I got a bunch of info off this board and by scouring this site www.transonline.com If you go to that site look in the upper left corner for "total tech database" and click on it. Then pick the make of trans you want info on (GM). Then go to 700R4. Lotsa info, tips, and descriptions in there.

A board member (Hu Ryde) has lots of info on the trans on a site also. http://www.huryde.com/html/Tech/mofotranny.htm

If you dont wanna make the special tools you'll need thes ppl have them for sale. I havent purchased anything from them myself but it looks like they offer just about any tool you would need to tear down/rebuild a 700R4.

What is your tranny doing? Or let me say not doing? Do you think it's a hard part or a clutchpack? Summit sells a nice kit with all the necessary rebuild parts and others can be purchased from the net or locally at Dacco/Detroit or Transtar. Let me ability to build will take alot of time and effort. Clean the basement and get lots of small card board boxes to help orginize the build. Let us, ( the BB ) know if you have any Q's.
