Merging Typhoon harness with newer OBD harness?

I did a search with no real info about wiring.

I want to put a typhoon computer in a 2000 (OBD II ?) S10. It will have a stock 4.3 turbo engine, drivetrain, etc etc.

Do I graft/solder wire for wire using the schematics for both years?, or do I piggy back the Typhoon computer on the newer truck computer and use the old computer just for engine management?

I'm guessing, but i would think the newer computer has more inputs and output than the old one.

The donor truck is 4.3 V6 auto 4X4. I will replace it with the turbo 4.3 V6 auto AWD.

Just stumped on the best way to get the wiring resolved. I would doubt there is a plug and play harness out there for this type of swap.

Sounds like one big headache to me.
Even the length of wire will be a problem.

Any chances for a donor truck for the wiring?
Finding a 4.3L S-10 will cut your problems down to the fuel injection harness and a few other odds and ends.

If using the complete sy drivetrain use the sy computer and wiring. I don't know of any problems other than antilock brakes that feed through the pcm on the obd 2 system. You will have to mate the new wiring to the speedo and all power and grounds on the ecm. I have complete wiring diagrams for both trucks. E-mail with specific questions.

I have no experince doing this, but I would try to piggy back the Ty ecm. If using the 4L60E tranny in the newer truck, you will need the new ECM to control the shifts and run all non ecm electronics. You will probably want a schematic of both ECM pin outs.

I encountered this very subject sometime ago with my swap.. Ultimately I elected to go with the later (2000) model computer. After seeing where the syty stuff is as, and where the new ecm's are going, hands down I would go with the later stuff.

In terms of tuning theres sooo many more options out there. I would SERIOUSLY consider keeping the 2000 model ECM. You will need this for the BCM module to function correctly anyhow.

The syty ecm is/was the pinnacle of computers back in its day, however, technology has moved forward. The guys over at Hptuners.com already have a 2 bar program out for their software and are in process of working on a 3 bar setup.. I really cant see the need for running a SyTy ecm with these kind of options. Initially the cost of Hptuners, EFILive etc maybe a little more than you want to spend, but by the time you spend the money for a burner, chips, eraser, Tunercat RT, Promgrammer, emulator etc.. It all adds up.. (very close to that of HPtuners, EFILive etc) I understand that Tunercat also has a program coming out for the Later PCMs as well, and its around $300-400

I definitely am not knocking the SyTy ecm, its good, but the newer stuff is faster and easier to deal with and there are ENDLESS forums with a wealth of information.

Personally I would use the Stock PCM for that motor and all the hardware you need from the syty motor to make it happen. In fact, I changed my plans from the initial project started.. I have looked at ALL the options available, initially I started with using stock SyTy ECM to control the LS1. Then I went with the idea of the BIGSTUFF3 controller, and ultimately I went the current thinking which is to run that correct PCM for the motor. The hardware all bolts up, and its ALOT easier to tune with than the SyTy setup.

Anyhow, just my :2cents:
