Need information on REAR LOCKER/POSI Options

I searched the archives of the bbs and wasnt able to find anything about peeps using a REAR LOCKER other than the stocker posi unit..

Well I managed to barf the teeth on the govenor portion of my rear posi and was contemplating the use of a DETROIT or some other form of traction aiding device..

I plan on running some elevated HP and TQ #'s and I wanna make sure the rear can take it.. I dont want to have to go back in and re-do something later thats my reason for the hesitation in using the OEM setup.

Also, I think that perhaps the sticky 11"-ers in the rear may have contributed to this.. Thats why I want to make sure I can install something and forget about it..

So my question is: HAS ANYONE ELSE INSTALLED ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE OEM POSI ????????

If so, post what, how much, when, where did U get it from, PROs and CONS etc !!

I need to know.. The nats are coming soon and I wanna attempt to make it but its starting to look bleak.

Also, before i forget, I found this page that does a good job explaining the differences TRACTRECH but I would like to hear first hand accounts since our trucks are soo much different than almost any other on the road.

I am glad you took my advice and bought a Posi...instead of a locker.

What breed of worms are crawling out of that blue can of yours? Seems you open more than just one can.

:D :)

I have a detroit locker in my K-5 Blazer, its lifted 8 inches with 39" tires and 4.56 gears, I love the locker but I am not really sure how it would be in the Ty but in my truck it is pretty good if you give it gas around the corner the tires will lock and the tires will hop around the corner so that might be a problem in your ty. I would just buy a an Auburn or equivalent diff. Good luck with whatever you decide hope to see you at the Nats.

Well I purchased an EATON POSI Unit from Randys Ring and Pinion. They seem to have an idea of whats going on and are quite helpful on the phone..

The stocker was showing its age and it still seemed to function properly which was odd.... Problem is, I think one of these launches and I may have been heading for the wall (opposite corners getting the traction).. So I chose to fix it and run for a while when its back together hopefully I wont be sorry....

As far as the NATS are concerned.. I dunno at this point.. I myself will be there but my truck....... Well....... getting hard to determine if its gonna be ready. :(

there's a bunch available.
auburn and auburn pro - the pro is as close to unbreakable as u will find for our pussy axles.
the worm drive styles (torsen, et al) arent meant for drag racing, but should live 4ever if u keep the awd functioning.
i run a torsen in my v8 s10, with a stick trans, and it hasnt even moaned once.
i am puttign one in my sy whenever i get round to it as my govlock is shitted out, too, plus the spiders are crunchy sounding.
lots of places sell thsi gear, including me, probly your local speedshop, and all the drivetrain specialty places, like reider racing or dts or national drivetrain.
