no pics handy , but an air chisel and some good ear plugs will do the trick .
Theres a few spot welds on the top and bottom you have to knock out then it just pulls right out .

Sorry all. I should have been more clear. I want to notch it so i can install the trans and transfercase easier. Well i guess i could just remove it also?? Is it easy to get out and put back in?
Thanks,

i dont believe anyone has removed the stocker and put it back in . I did see pics of an old aftermarket al dustan bar on 1 truck , but I believe they stated their unhappiness with it and ended up buying a new one in RPM's gp chromeoly support thread .

is the engine out of your truck? My Dad and I managed to get it in without removing the rear cross member but the engine was out.

It was tricky but with some patience, a tranny jack and a high lift jack and two ratchet straps we did it.

No point cutting the car apart if you don't need to :)

good luck

Thanks, I remember Jeff talking about knotching the support so you can get the Transfer case out without having to remove the trans??

What were the ratchet straps for?? So i should put the trans up in there and then install the motor??

Thanks,

If you notch it you can remove them seperate, you can install without but you must install as a unit.

We initially did jeremy's this way, and he recently had trans out and went ahead and notched it and was able to install things much easier.

I don't have pics though. On my ty I removed it completly and built a new one further back.

Really, maybe your engine sits more forward than the six's do??

Can someone please muster up a picture of the notched brace??

Thanks a ton,

Re: Picture request on cutting rear frame brace for 4L80e install

the ratchet straps helped pull the trans forward and up and also acted as safety.

They meant that we could move the tranny jack around and the 2T hi lilft jack and not have to drop the trans.

It was time consuming but not too labour intensive. I am sure that cutting the frame is easier but I didn't want to mess up my powdercoat or weaken the frame any more than needed.

Good luck.

Re: Picture request on cutting rear frame brace for 4L80e install

Did anyone ever take any pics of this? Or can someone PLEASE take measurements from centerline of how much they did notch? Looking to make this install as seamless as possible with spending $ on coil overs yet.

I ended up not notching my brace as the torsion bar cross member sits inside of it and I could not notch that.

What I did was make the frame brace a easily removable unit by getting ride of the tack welds and using bolts on the top holes. The bottom holes are taken care of when you bolt down your torsion bar cross member rubber bushing/mount.

I tested it and I can undo the bolts and slide the entire unit (frame brace, torsion bar cross member, and torsion bars) back enough to where I think I can r&r the x-fer case with no problem.

Hope this helps.

See ya,
