They are way off on the time thing! I just took mine out, I would let it sit as long as possible to let all fluid out. Just get under there and start ripping it apart. I found the directions after I took mine out. If you have any questions feel free to drop me a message.

Watch out for the transfer case, sometime's it's a bear and sometimes it spins off. Don't let it fall on you, it's heavy.

Why is my time off...???

Don't you know your way around wrenches...??

When I wrote that, it was purely from memory when I was playing, and had pulled my tranny about 4 times in a week. Got lots of practice.. Probably could use some added info, but gave basics.

I don't think I could do it now in that time, out of practice, and I don't feel like practicing.

It wasn't that bad for a first time puller. I took it in days, little here little there. The hardest part was the lines.

I'm sure it comes out faster when all of the bolts and nuts are already fresh from being broken loose  It took about a week of heat and PB Blast to get my 9 year old and feable suspension apart under my Ty. I redid everything. I mean everything. Can't be too careful with tranny and fuel line connectors.

Make sure you use a flare wrench on the line nuts. They are soft and strip easily. Taking the lines off and putting them on is easier if you drop the tranny several inches and then take the line off. You think taking them off was hard  When you put them back up, you have to line up the nuts perfectly to get them to thread. Either it goes in first try or so, or you have to mess with it so long you arms begin to feel as if they were as heavy as lead.

I am going to write a procedure and put it on my website when it gets finished. I'll give all the tips and tricks for both a one man show or a person that has good friends to help. I'll also show you how to do it safely so you don't get smashed. I R&R trannies with the transfer case attached and it is heavy but a lot easier even if you are solo like I am 99% of the time. Friends seem to be absent anytime you have to pull the tranny and put it back in.

After a trip to the emergency room to get my chin glued back together(My Typhoon punched me right square in the chin)I'm stuck.

I've got everything loose except for the two cooler lines on the tranny. I was gonna drop it down a little before I tried to do those.

Ok, this might sound stupid but....how do you separate the trans from the engine? Smack it with a piece of wood? Deadblow hammer? Pry? It really likes where it is at.

I've got all the bolts and studs out of the bellhousing (there are four 14mm bolts, two studs with four 14mm nuts that hold the downpipe bracket in place.

Got the 10mm bolt out and removed the TV cable.

The dipstick is out.

The bolt for the fuel line bracket is out.

The screw for the wiring harness is out.

I can lay under it and push up and let it down(still has jack under it to keep it from bending things in the engine compartment)and the engine goes up and down with it.

Help?!?!
Thanks!!

Do you have the three bolts off the flywheel/torque converter? After all these bolts where out, I was able to push the trans back a little (on a trans jack at the time). then I lowered it to undo the cooler lines.

Yeah, I pulled those out according to the ChiTown site's directions. Took all three out and slid the TC back(about 3/8"). Nothing is there to hold the tranny in place. Do I need to work the jack up and down so that it isn't hanging on the alignment dowels or anything? Just doesn't make sense.

George, I thought you werent going to get back under that thing today. Anyway grab the back of tranny and harshly jerk side to side. I did this while Daron used a crow bar to try and pry it apart. Took a minute but it came apart. Real floppy at this point, don't let that hing fall on you. Have the wife watch if anything goes wrong so she can call for help if something goes wrong. OR YOU CAN CALL ME AND I CAN COME OVER AND HELP! I'll have a few hours after class to come over. E-mail me if you want me to stop by.

I didn't want to get back under there after banging myself in the chin. It started out as me just sitting there looking at the damn thing, then I thought "I'll just loosen them up", then before I knew it, I was working on the stupid thing again. I'll give you a call if I work on it today. It's so dag gone cold out right now.
