take care of your transfer case (rant and thanks)

Like most of us on here, I purchased my truck used. I take care of it and make sure it is babied. Also, like many on here, it had a few of the normal leaks (transfer case, rear pinion seal). So, I figured to take my transfer case out to put new seals on it as I THOUGHT it was ok... boy was I wrong. After pulling it, and opening it up, the planatary was destroyed, and it was literally burnt looking on the inside. I was looking at the pics someone posted of assembly, and mine was dark brown on the inside with a thick substance at the bottom. I am thinking "Since I purchased it, I have made sure to make sure fluid was inside". But there was 94k miles where I have no clue about.
Well, between bearings ovaled, and the needle bearing in pieces, the transfercase was toast. Talking to Dave P about it, he helped me realize it was toast. It looks like it was run for a while without fluid in the transfercase (I should have thought this was the case as when I first purchased her I remember going to change the fluid and a few drops came out of the case).
I purchased a used transfer case from a member on .net, and I figured I would open it up to put new seals in it and just to compare. Now, the one I purchased has around 90k on it and looks BRAND NEW on the inside. Super clean, no weird substance in it, it looks amazing. Putting it in the truck today, and taking pics of the underside of my truck. Which although it has been a southern truck until I purchased it, I am fortunate as there is NO rust under this truck. It is cleaner than my 2015 accord under neath! I also think the amount of grease coming out of the damn transfercase helped cover the bottom of the Ty. I removed all of it, and will be waxing (I know overkill) the underneath of it as it is that clean.
Thank you to members of the community who have helped me by talking me through questions that might seem silly to some, but as a person trying to learn more about the truck, are important. Also, thank you to members who continue to support each other with reliable parts (used and new) when others might be in a bind and cant afford at the moment a new part.
