TC makes sy run like an old dog

I have been looking around the forum and cant seem to find what I'm looking for. So here goes.

When driving home... My Sy will periodically feel like I'm driving with the brake on or like I'm towing a heavy load. When this happens. I can give it gas, watch the boost increase but the truck will only slowly gain speed unless I floor it. I think my problem is the TC locking up and putting a load on the motor. I only notice the problem when it is hot outside. The last couple days have been in the 90's. I do not notice this problem in the morning driving to work.

Could the brakes be sticking?

Could this be from a bad TC or is this a symptom of something else?

I have seance changed the cap, rotor, oil, oil filter, and checked the trans fluid with no luck.

BUMP.

Normally... (with in the last 2 years). I can feel the TC kick in when I'm on the freeway with the same results but I never noticed it when driving around on surface streets under 35mph. I dont want to start pulling my sy apart untel Im sure of the problem. I drive her every day and have never had her on jack stands longer than a days work.

Do you have a scan tool you can hook up? It should show you if the TC is locked. You say it only happens on hot days, have you checked to make sure your I/C is full and that the pump is working?

The I/C was about 8 FL OZ low.

DaveP. Thanks, I will try that.

The only reason I suggested checking the I/C is that on a hot day with a non functional or poorly functioning intercooler, my thought was that the intake air was too hot and you might be getting knock. Then the ECM would pull timing. Not sure if that theory was sound or not, but at least you filled up the I/C.

A scan tool would have shown that though. You still should hook up a scan tool to get more information before we internet diagnose ya.

Re: TC makes sy run like an old dog

I took it for a good long drive on Sunday. I did not feel any problems with the TC kicking in and causing excess drag. But I did notice that cruising around 15-20mph my trans was shifting back and forth between gears a lot. That only happened once. The rest of the drive was normal until I got home and the brakes started squeaking.

Today I am going the do the front brakes and order a new aldl cable.

Just a thought....

Would a dirty/clogged Trans filter cause any of the symptoms that Im experiencing?

Ok.... Another hot day yesterday. Same thing. When driving, It feels like someone will suddenly attach a freight train to the back of my truck. No power. I can press the gas and it will drag ass. The A/F gauge will go all the way Red when I press the gas pedal. Like DaveP said. If I lightly tap the brake pedal. The T/C disengages and all is back to normal.

Could this be a bad T/C. Maybe dirty fluid or a clogged filter. Im just guessing at this point.
