Probably just need to get a new shifter cable. Not that bad a job. I don't think there is an adjustment to it, but I could be wrong. It stretches/weakens and then you have problems like you are describing.

Did you just put a cast pan or a pan that is a differen't thickness on? Possibly a foreign object hit the bracket? WHen I put my TCI pan on it made things so that the gear selector bracket was out of adjustment and did the samething yours is doing. You need to get uder the truck and bend the tap until it goes into park, towards the front. This can go either way but of you ran something over then the tab is probly bent back and just needs to be bent forward some. Tap it with a hammer until it falls into park. HTH

well i got it to go into park Thanks, had to bend the tab a bit forward.I still am having problems with it going into any of the gears when starting it up. When it does finaly go into gear it stalls the truck. It feels like the converter is locking up,after it gets going and goes through some gears it jumps around a bit , and then after that it works fine no problems until you stop for a while then get back in and it does this silly stuff all over again

Are you sure they put the correct cable in? Don't mean to ask such a silly question. Was it doing this stuff before the replacement? There is a manual valve inside the valvebody that this cable moves. If that valve isn't in its correct position that could be a problem. There is a spring loaded arm with a roller bearing on the end of it in the valve body that clicks over the teeth on the manual shaft that gives you that "click" detent you feel. This arm could be broken. The only adjustment I'm aware of is the neutral/park safety switch that keeps the truck from being started when in any "drive" gear.
You really shouldn't be driving it if it keeps doing that. What was it doing that made you replace the shift cable in the first place? Maybe there is something else going on.

Do you have the PN for the cable you replaced? Did you get it from GM or local auto store? Is it kinked?
