Typhoon #2016. Twin Turbo LS1

Figure i'd make a project thread for this truck. It's at one hell of a starting point for me, and i know it'd taken a lot of time and effort to get it to where it is. Here is what i know.

Truck:
1992, Green/Gray, 87k mi on body

Motor/Drivetrain:
1998 LS1 fully stock motor, 28k mi
Lingenfelter Intake Manifold
2 Borg Warner T04 turbos (.69 / __ )
FAST Fuel rails
FAST 78mm Billet Throttle Body
4l80e with Hughes 2500 convertor
Big Stuff 3 controlling motor/tranny
60lb. Siemens injectors
Walbro 255

Suspension/Steering/Brakes:
JS tubular a-arms
QA1 coil shocks all 4 corners
Front/Rear sway bars
some sort of mono/dual leaf spring out back
AGR steering box
Hydraboost
Baer 13"/12" disc brakes
Polished 18" Z06 wheels
275-40-18 BFG G force tires

Misc:
RacePak UItradash

Some pics that i took today:

as you can see...it's pretty damn clean. I haven't cleaned it at ALL except for the windshield to get the hauler dirt off so i could see. It won't take much effort to have it show worthy for NATS, thats for sure.

Dislikes:
Not sure i like the feel of the AGR steering box - might swap in a zq8 at some point. Although i'm not use to 18s on a syty, so that might be part of the feel that i have to get used to (although i might ditch the z06s since i'm not sure i like them all that much).

Also truck is prolly about 80% tuned, still needs some work. Tranny tune is outta wack. Runs and drives great, feels great under acceleration, doesn't spool super fast in first gear. Haven't launched it yet, haven't tried to spool it under power braking either...so no clue how it'll respond yet. But rolling off the line into the throttle it still goes good.

Sounds nothing like a SyTy. Has dual exhaust coming out in front of the rear wheels. Sounds good, just not syty-like. I can make do.

Hydraboost + Baers = one firm pedal. It'll just take some getting used to. Stops great, just no feel involved in the foot (at this point anyway).

So thats about the only "bad" things i have to say about the thing. It's the cleanest/nicest truck i've owned overall, easily. I would love to get #2320 into this condition one day.

Love the dual exhaust with no cat/muffers. Straight off the DP I assume?

yup. downpipe = exhaust.

one thing that won't remain on the truck is the stock rear. As some point when the money tree reflourishes (maybe this winter) i'll concoct some sort of new rear for it. And at that points i'll put the rear Baer's on (stock drums right now)

The engine bay looks awesome, but how does the interior look? Stock besides the gauges?

yea the interior is stock minus the gauge cluster, and there are two gauges down in the cupholder...which i may move since it's a bit hard to look down there while driving and not die.

If it runs as good as it should you wont have time to look at the gauges anyway, trust me ;)

That setup makes me really want to look at the twin turbo route.

How's the responsiveness of the twins? Any videos planned?

Truckless. For now.
Re: Typhoon #2016. Twin Turbo LS1

That was a killer deal Mike. Can't wait to hear some vids of how it sounds. Still have our fingers crossed the house will sell and we can make Nats to hear it in person.

boost is controlled via springs right now, so i don't think that's helping spool at all. I'm pretty sure its bleeding off some boost prematurely. It doesn't seem to spool very quickly off the line....but then again i've only driven it a few miles and haven't even gone WOT yet. It feels/sounds strong though.

Yea, i'll be taking video. Not to worry. Gotta stop raining first though.

Re: Typhoon #2016. Twin Turbo LS1

took my g/f for her maiden voyage tonight. Everything was great till i stomped on it a little  she held on for dear life and glared at me like no other. She called me 'michael' and said something but i was too busy laughing. :rotf: She does loves the "pssh psssh pshh" of the wastegates though

on another note...i got my netbook connected to the big stuff 3 tonight

8.9" screen, 16gb ssd, 1gb ram...only $229 at best buy! It's tiny for typing, but you get used to it. I
ll be making a mount soon for it so that it's easier to look at as a driver. Tonight i recalibrated the tranny settings, so hopefully tomorrow when i try it out i'll have a better shifting truck

That's a sweet deal on the Netbook. Might have to tell my parents about that one.
