Re: What kept you from coming to homecoming?

Well....I'm kind of in another country right now....but honestly I'm just trying to get everything together to where I can start making all the Nats (assuming they're going to keep happening). It looks like the Homecoming was a pretty good time.

Re: What kept you from coming to homecoming?

Daughter's 4th birthday.

Would have cost over $1000.00 for me to go, with truck, by the time gas, hotel, food, track, and beer were calculated.

I'm as die-hard as anybody, but that's a lot of money for a truck event.

Would have loved to have gone. Considered borrowing an eco-box to drive out, but the timing didn't work out for that, either.

Truckless. For now.
Re: What kept you from coming to homecoming?

Since money wasn't an option, I picked time. I need all of my vacation days for after the baby is born. It's pretty much my only option for "paternity leave" where I work. Not to mention, it's expensive to get there, truck or no truck, fly or drive.

I made it part of Friday but my sore back from surgery and getting it beat to sh$t from the short ride in the SY kept me from the best day (SAT) of Homecoming. Next year will be better.

Couldn't afford to miss work.

I can make nearly a weeks pay by working a 12 hour day on Saturday and Sunday.

Gas time and money.
And last minute look at the weather told me it was a gamble.
So I stayed home sick in bed.

Looks like you guys had fun though!

Distance was a factor, but mainly, hopefully, once-in-a-lifetime issues/troubles with parents that needed tending to.....wife in Wyoming for 9 weeks taking care of the family while I was in Oklahoma holding down the fort.

Re: What kept you from coming to homecoming?

I'll apologize now for posting even though I attended the event. This might entice someone to attend a future event.
I flew into Detroit Metro (2 hr direct flight) since I did not want to drive 12 hours alone. Plane flight for me was less than $300.00.

I had an absolute blast and would do it again this weekend if the opportunity was there. I met alot of incredibly nice people and was immediately welcomed upon my arrival even though no one there had ever met me before and although I have been a member for 6+ years I certaintly am not one of the top posters.

Not wanting to toot my own horn, I helped out where I was able. I sold raffle tickets, made a couple of signs, cooked on the grille and enticed some of Tony's employees to come out and "play" in the street (his younger employees really had no idea what out trucks were all about and then jabberwalk spanks the Fairmont and then they had respect). It was an atmosphere where you were very comfortable, everyone was having a good time (without alcohol) and I was happy to help out. I can't imagine what would have happened in the street Saturday afternoon if it had not rained.

Quite a few trucks showed (40+? including 3 Teals (( but no reds). Saw many different setups (and alot of 315's) and mods, won a starter in the raffle, learned alot of different things about these trucks (one would think that after 6 years on the board that I would have known these things but there is just so much info and guys like Ken (warmpancakes) are walking encyclopedias). Saw and learned quite a bit about the Detroit area (I even saw the GM proving grounds and a hill where alot of "spy" photos get taken from - always wondered how those guys got those photos). Got real intimate with John Gerber's Ty (the amount of thought that went into that build is just amazing - it even has the best body lines for cladding that I have seen) and even watched Renz eat fried ice cream. With the exception of having a few girls unexpectedly show up in my hotel room, I could not have asked for a better weekend. Obviously if there is one thing you need to do, it is to NOT miss the next Homecomming.

Start to finish in less than a year. That's a good deal. It will be an added bonus to what I am sure will be an even better event.

Thanks Shawn. Hopefully a few more weeks and I should be good. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Re: What kept you from coming to homecoming?

If we have it next year almost 99% it will be Hampton inn & Unlimited truck & Trailer agin. Hampton Inn treated us GREAT!! & unlimited is A really cool place to have it because of the owner getting his Crovette ZO6's out running us out front of his place & letting all of us race in front of his place. So I suggest next year you MUST find the time to make it!!! O did I mention we had CHEESE!! I have A Fridg. full !!
