sy ty cladding identification

I am creating a new post dedicated to cladding identification. Ty0279 asked how to tell the difference between sy and ty wheel arches. So that inspired me to do this writeup since I have most of the pieces so that I can do a side by side comparison of each different piece.
.
We will start with the arches and what is different since that is what started this in the first place:

it is all about how the arch interacts with the corner and the forward cab/quarter panel piece. Here are a corner and arch from each:

.
Here is a close up of a Syclone corner/arch intersection. Notice how there is one hole for a fastener, and one U shaped alignment cutout/key on each part. This is the same at both ends.

.
Here is a close up of a Typhoon corner/arch intersection. Notice how there is one hole for a fastener, but there are two alignment holes/key on each part. This is the same at both ends.

.
Here is a comparison of the two arches. Notice the tabs are close to the bottom of the arch on the Typhoon arch and they are nearer the top on the Syclone arch.

.
Next we will pick up with the corners themselves:
.
The picture below shows a syclone corner and a typoon corner. There are numerous differences between the two pieces highlighted by little red arrows. Since I don't have perfect pieces, I have to mention that each one is missing a tab. The typoon corner has two tabs at the wheel well end, and the syclone only has one. As mentioned in the wheel arch section, the intersection of these two parts is different, with the typhoon intersection having two alignment keys and the syclone having only one.
The typhoon corner has a longer ridge that sits on the cups that are attached to the quarter panel, but a shorter tab that has two places for fasteners while the syclone has three.
The last major difference is where the corner and the bumper intersect, the typhoon corner has more material that follows the contour of the bumper cover, while the syclone does not.

Next is the forward quarter panel piece:
.
In the picture below are a syclone and typhoon forward quarter piece. The two pieces are somewhat similar, but with a couple of major distinctions. The typhoon piece has an extended support for interconnecting with the rocker panel. The syclone does not, due to it being a pickup and not tying the body and cab together. The typhoon has a flatter profile in the lower left corner, and does not have a cutout near the mounting tab like the syclone.
.
As stated in the wheel arch section, the intersection where the arch meets the quarter piece are different due to the typhoon having two alignment keys on the quarter piece, and the syclone has one bigger one.

.
We will end with the rocker piece. I do not have a good picture of a syclone rocker piece due to selling the two broken ones I had. Pictured below is a typhoon rocker piece. The major difference between the two pieces is that the syclone is shaped like an L while the typhoon rocker is like an I. This additional piece makes up for the fact that the door is farther from the rear wheel well in a sy.

The "picture" below is a rendering of what the syclone rocker piece looks like until someone emails me a copy to update this post with.

.Kurt sent me a picture of a sy rocker panel, I didn't do too bad with my rendering lol other than the fact that mine is upside down and backwards. So here it is:

.
If someone has a sy rocker panel off the truck and they can snap a picture, email it to me at ziembic at gmail . com. If anyone has any suggestions to make this better, please feel free to post and I will try to make it happen.

Re: sy ty cladding identification

Great post, Jeff. This is 'Vault' material for sure.

I emailed you a pic of a Syclone rocker piece.

Re: sy ty cladding identification

So what you're saying is the pieces aren't interchangeable?

Lol just kidding, nice write up! Vault for sure, as I'm sure this question will be asked time and time again.
