Exclamation Homecoming Suggestions for 2012

Your suggestions are what help to make things better for Homecoming 2012. Any suggestions that you have and are willing to share will be greatly appreciated. We will do our best to accommodate with what we can in order to try and make the next event better then the last. We can't promise all suggestions will be granted but they will all be considered. TIA

Re: Homecoming Suggestions for 2012

The hotel itself was great. The staff was friendly and they didnt give us too much static. Parking on the front lawn was fine, but it should have been mowed. Its a good thing it didnt rain, or we'd be all slinging mud!

The go-karts were a riot! I vote we go back to the same place and harass BIZ MARKEE the (dick)head official some more!

Pete's garage was OK....maybe we try somewhere else next time? Somewhere we can ALL hang out as a large group.

PAVE THAT DAMN ROAD HEADING TO THE TRACK AT MILAN!!

Thanks again for the great time!

As far as Pete's Garage goes, we were supposed to be as one large group....some how someone, who shall remain nameless, made the reservation for Sunday instead of Saturday.

Re: Homecoming Suggestions for 2012

I'm with Alex on the mowing. The location was great, having the hotel and the show lot right there with a "hi-jinks" road was perfect.

Ditch the DJ... I think it kinda detracted from the show.

Food was very good... I wouldn't mess with it.

Maybe a competition of some sort during the day - tire changing or fastest-on-jackstands... something to break up the day.

Re: Homecoming Suggestions for 2012

Here's my take on some small things that could make homecoming gooder:
  • Group event friday night: mini golf, cruise, poker run, photo shoots, parking lot events.....something. Enough people show up friday afternoon/night to warrant doing something. Plus something occurring will make more people want to show up friday night instead of saturday only

  • name tags - makes life way easier when you can't remember 50 people's names like me.

  • saturday morning event similar to friday night above....gives vendors/committee time to setup for the show portion and keeps the trucks away from the lot.

  • show: preconceived parking map / instructions / leaders....i'm anal about liking to see trucks lined up straight and all backed in to their spots...plus it just makes for much better picture opportunities when trucks aren't every which way.

  • show: awards voting....the "furthest travelled" isn't something to vote for, shoulda just been a question of how far you drove

  • registration packets: baggies of stuff prepackaged ahead of time is a pain in the butt but works wonders

  • parking in grass: lets line up straight and evenly spaced for better pictures. Maybe paint some markers in the grass

I like a lot of these.....please keep them coming. Some of the "issues" have been addressed already. There were a few things that didn't go as they were agreed and planned and will not happen again.

We had name tags Mike....I can't honestly tell you why the didn't get handed out when Shawn and I were handing out the registration info. I am horrible at remembering names too so these would have been a huge benefit.

pre-print name tags is the way to go...not the "hello my name is _____" with a sharpie marker written name.

Print out 3 or 4 for every person so they can put a fresh one on each day. Costs very little and makes a big impact - people loved the ones i made for NATS '09 and is a simple task.

Absolutely agree. We had even talked about getting lanyards that were printed SyTy specific and having peoples info hanging from them. Kinda of a souvenir and a practical purpose rolled into one.....didn't happen in time though. Live and learn.

it's becuase you need to setup a registration table that you can sit at and work it assembly line style, or have everything prepackaged into baggies. Having it all sitting in the back of a Ty makes you spin around non stop trying to get everything and slows down the process.

another good thing would have been a car wash setup w/ hoses rather than having to run up the road and pay $1.00/min.

X2 on the car wash. I tried to talk the hotel into it, but they wouldn't go for it. If it was made a condition to return they may change their tune. It was awesome at nats 09 to have it right at the hotel. It is another condition that makes people talk to each other outside of their native groups. I met a bunch of people just because I was waiting in line.

I second making the go carts a more official part of the trip. Wonder if it can be rented? Maybe a more permanent tent (aka huge rented type) for the grass lot in front of the hotel, would keep everyone from spreading out. A keg of cheap beer, would make a lot less trash. My last recommendation is probably the hardest to achieve: A better timeline and sticking to it. The convoy to dinner on sat night seemed a little hap hazard since some people were still playing with wheels while others were waiting down at the hotel...lol but at least at two white TY's kept us occupied with some good flyby's.

It was a great event, that I will return to for sure. Thanks again for the hard work.

I agree with stuff mentioned above; name tags with your first name and user name, and the controlled parking. I'd love to see the HC shirts going to 2 sided. I love my shirt but I would like something small on the front and the big stuff on the back. Or like the ones from Nats 09, themz we're SWEET.
