How about a "What is it worth?" forum?

I'm all for anything that reduces a perception of hostility. I'm not sure it warrants a completly new "room"...it could easily be answered in the Lounge or Newbie section. It comes down to how we respond to it, understanding that people want a quick answer and don't spend hours on SyTy.net.

Re: How about a "What is it worth?" forum?

We've had a few new guys come on the last couple of weeks with this question. The reaction by us can come across as 'hostile' because the noob could answer his own question if he would conduct a search, or just lurk for awhile and read. But they don't. People want instant answers.

A couple of other forums (teamchevelle and teamcamaro) I've visited recently have a forum "What is it Worth" that is for soliciting prices on cars and parts. Being inherently lazy and curious as to the value of my El Camino and Camaro, I used them on my first visits to these sites and received useful responses. I didn't get the 'hostility' I see us exhibiting here with the same type of post.

I think we should try it on our site. It's not the same as "internet finds". May even make it easier for noobs to answer their own questions. I'll volunteer to moderate it.

Comments?

i agree.

I agree. Dave I have talked to you in the chat a few time and have been very helpful with all my questions and seem like a genuinely nice guy. That being said don't take this the wrong way.

Why should there be any "hostility" at all when someone asks a question? If you are irritated by someones asking of a question, then hit the back button or move on to another post/topic. Where is the harm in someone new to the SyTy life asking questions?? I myself still being a "newb" have asked plenty of question, some on the forums and some to friends. Everyone on here was a "newb" at one time or another and the idea of these forums being created was for those who have these rare trucks, could come together and share knowledge, experience, etc. As everyone on here knows the info out on the internet on SyTy's is limited and often inaccurate. Yes, EVERYONE should search for the answer to their questions before creating a new post, but on the flip side to that, not everything is there to find through the search. "What it is worth?" is a matter of opinion more so then researchable information. Prices come up and down so much it s hard to get a gauge on what these are worth from day to day. Who better to put values on SyTy's and all things related to them then those of us that own them. I digress....why create a new room?? ;)

what we don't want is a new "what's is worth" thread for every for sale thread though

True. The rule would have to be "this section for people looking to BUY trucks only." For example, they're new to SyTys, they see one for sale OUTSIDE of the forum, and want to know if the asking price is legit.

Otherwise people will ask what their truck is worth, then put it up for sale for more, then get flamed because he had previously asked and got honest responses. Make sense?

EDIT: The section could also be a "History" section. "Hey, I'm looking at a truck in Pennsyltucky, Ty #2222, anyone know anything about it?"

After thinking about this and reading more.... I can see adding a section or sub-section in or with the Truck For Sale Forum for people strictly asking what peoples opinions or thought are on potential sales or purchases. As far as any jackass asking or doing this....
"... ask what their truck is worth, then put it up for sale for more, then get flamed because he had previously asked and got honest responses." If you ask what a truck is worth and then completely disregard the "help", which you asked for, and list the truck way higher then the suggested price or buy a overpriced truck, you are a dipshit. Why ask peoples thoughts if you don't plan on listening to them. It is your truck/your $$, but if you are planning on doing whatever you want.... then don't waste everyone time seeing as your mind is already made up. This forum is a prime example of that, it looks as if "crucialdanks303" had his mind made up before he even started typing his post.

What is the point of this forum??? Sales Forum

Unless I am a complete moron (and that I may be), it shows what trucks and parts have sold for. What better comparison to see what a truck or a part is worth?? It seems as if people are just looking for instant validation or confirmation on possible purchases/sales. If peoples goal or purpose by asking "What is it worth?" is for all of us to simply type....."Yes its a great deal....Nice find!!" then just say so and that is what you will get.... a bullshit smoke up your ass response. I agree with you Dave on the post here, he asked a question and didn't like the answers he got. Now this guy here has asked a question and truly appreciated the honest opinions he was given be all of us, even Morgan. It seems to me the main problem is that people are lazy. They don't want to take the time to research a potential investment. Are we just creating a "special forum" to compensate laziness of other people??
