dropped my crank off at the shop

when i bought my engine, the guy said, "it ran when we pulled it out". famous last words, right? they probably couldn't hear the rod knock through all the oil sludge insulation! :roll:
well, i took it by the crank grinder today and he said it looks like it's going to take .010 on the mains and .020 on the rods. he said that's no big deal but just want to see if anyone else has done this much and if any problems have been observed.
BTW, i'm gonna pay the extra $35 to have them magnaflux it. no sense throwing anything into turning a cracked crank.

.010/010 is common on stock cranks and hold up fine when nitrided atleast.. .020 is borderline.. i would say it depends if you plan to modify the truck, or spend money nitriding it as well.

actualy a crank is STRONGER if you take ten off and have the edges fillet'd (cut round Vs. a sharp edge). they come with a 90* corner and thats a very healthy spot to crack them. have it cut, and tell him, even though if he is a decent shop he'll do it without thinking, to fillet the edges, and your crank will be stronger at 10 under than it was stock. any sharp edge/corner is a hot spot for cracking.
