Boosting a NA 4.3

I have been thinking of boosting my NA 4.3 with a procharger blower and was wondering what you guy's think I should expect to gain with 8psi boost. Has anyone done this with a Sonoma GT before? If so how much did it help? Will stock pistons handle this stress? Sorry for asking this qeuston here but you guy's have better knowlege of the 4.3 here than S-Series and the people here don't seem to try to bash you for a idea that no one esle has done before.

get a hold of Bill at Mach Performance and he should be able to help you no problem.

PS - my buddy had one of his kits and loved it

That is a good question. You don't see many people turboing the 4.3 unless its an syty motor. I would think you would be able to throw some boost at it. Compression of the 4.3 is 9.1:1 I believe?

Don't bother with Mach.Too many unsatified customers. Get some sy/ty manifolds and make your own.

I have in mind of a procharger unit with a adaptor to boost a carb

i have a twin screw s/c pushing 10 psi into a tbi 4.3.. JBA's,MSD,cold air,ect.. it has a 5 spd. and is a blast to drive. its noo match for the ty.
but its turning some big BFGs. for a small truck, its kinda big. boosted 6 years/40k,no motor problems.
i have an odd year ecm soo tuning is an issue.
watch out for that, some 95 ecms cant be manipulated for forced induction.

compression based on vin

z 9.3:1
92-94 w 9.1:1
96 + 9.2:1

Re: Boosting a NA 4.3

Some of the newer super chargers have come a long way but I'm still voting Turbo at this time.

It'd be easy to use a set of Sy/Ty manifolds however they are not plentiful. If you can flip the stock manifolds on your truck around and make a cross over flange to turbo mount it'd be a real cheap way to do it.
You'll make alot more power turbocharged.
If you can keep it injected you'll get alot more drivability out of it than a blow through carb. I just can't see having good tunability with a blow through carb. Peak power when tuned right at WOT won't be too far off injection (10%) maby but all the ranges between would be tough to be perfect like Injection would be.
Just depends on what you want out of it. Drivability with power or just power and no drivability.
It's defintatly possible and on a budjet.
Buy a used GN turbo (TA49) or in the 50series (4-500.00) and make some manifolds work with a little bit of fabrication you'll be havin fun.
