e-85 and fuel pump

i'm gonna install my new fuel pump this weekend hopefully and i was just wonder the walbro 255 is suppose to support up to 600hp which is sweet but if i'm running e-85, which requires aprox 30% more volume, would this make a corisponding 30% drop in the amount of horse power the fuel pump will support?

That would make sense. I'd pad that a bit too, to be on the safe side. Also, due to the corrosive nature of E85, I'd make sure the pump is recommended for that as well.

The fuel pump would be the least of your worries.

If you have any kind of build at all, you'll be out of injector or close to it. A totally stock motor with mild boost might make it.

Then, the question becomes one of how well the rest of your fuel system will handle it.

Re: e-85 and fuel pump

i've already stepped up to 50lb injectors. i'm still on the stock turbo and heads, i've got a new cam to slip in. i'm getting ready to give pure e85 a run. i know if i go with a big build i'll have to crank up the fuel system. i was just curious about the limits of the walbro 255 w/ e85. i've gotta change my fuel lines cause they're rust coverd and summit has a good deal on bulk stainless and i'm going w/ custom fuel rails and such. but i wasn't sure if i should just run dual 255 eventually or step up to a monster pump from aeromotive.

If you're going to do a big build in the future, go with the big fuel pump now, but get a controller so you don't burn out the pump. The controller can vary the voltage of the pump so it's not overloading the engine with fuel and then returing the hot gas back to the tank.

50s will run out of capacity..you'll need bigger. I'd recommend the high-z 65s at a minimum. You can crank the fuel pressure on them and deliver 70-75#.

Dual 255s should support what you want to do. Really big builds (faster than low 11s) will likely exceed this.

Note that you'll have to get a stainless rail setup, and an alcohol-rated regulator.
You could also galvanize the stock rail.
