I don't have one because I remember hearing that there's clearance issues with the gilbert shaft but here's an auction up on ebay that has some install shots

That auction and the pics below are all from the same source, Phil Chivers. Ron Gregory sells both front and rear safety loops as well as Phil's hood prop eliminator kits on his website, APE.com. You can see current pics of the front and rear safety loops on there.

I had a front one but removed it and sold it after I got my Gilbert propshaft back in 10/01. Simply because I will never break it. Some of the quickest trucks on here have been running a Gilbert for longer than me. If they haven't broken one yet, I'm not going to anytime soon with my mid twelve second truck...

Phil has improved both the finish and design on his safety loops over the years. I had the "old school" black painted ones and still have the rear one on my truck today. The newer zinc finish will hold up better to corrosion. And the rear one is now a one piece design (better IMO) that will require you to remove the rear driveshaft to install unlike the old style you see in the pics above. Great products from a great guy and worth every penny :2cents:.

I agree w/ Mike. Phil has great loops that I think would be hard to duplicate the quality and fit for the money!

Here is a picture of the front loop installed around a stock front propshaft. The loop surrounds the rear joint. There is adequate adjustment to allow for stock variations and for a slightly larger u-joint.

A propshaft with a significantly larger rear U-Joint won't work with this loop.

Stock rear shaft ok, how about the front prop shaft? Will your work with a Gilbert? I doubt if I will ever break a Gilbert but I have had more than a few "first's" thrown my direction, I think Murphy is my crew chief :rotf: !

I believe that loop is around the rear joint of the stock front propshaft... and I also recall people not being able to run the loop with there Gilbert's due to clearance issues.

like i said before, what if you break the front joint. that loop doesnt look like it would hold the shaft up enough to not touch the ground. if the front joint breaks, shaft hits the ground, mass destruction under the truck. wouldnt it be more important to be closer to the front joint?

Re: driveshaft and propshaft loop pics

The CV joint on the front rarely ever breaks. The double cardan at the rear is where there is a common history of bad stuff happening. That's probably why that rear was surrounded with the stock design shafts early on. The Gilbert design eliminates the double cardan and the CV joint by using slightly larger HD u-joints and a new HD yoke on the front.

Re: driveshaft and propshaft loop pics

Just logged back in. I had 93 and 92 Typhoons but sold them about 5 years ago. From 95 when I first began making the loops, I had not heard of any front shafts breaking at the front axle. I've since upgraded them many times to where they are easy to install and look good under the truck. I have only heard of one front shaft breaking at the front end so far (not saying that there aren't more), but on that particular truck, the boot had been ripped and it was only a matter of time. I've got stories from about 15 or so users of the front loop who have had their propshaft let go at the double-cardin joint. The loop kept the shaft from destroying the tranny in each case. In all but one, they were able to re-use the loop. Hope this helps.
