What wheels fit?

I have been getting mixed messages. I am thinking of putting a set of 1996 Corvette wheels (because they most closely resemble the stock typhoon wheels) but cannot get confirmation as to whether or not they fit and if so, in what sizes?

Re: What wheels fit?

The newbie search out of the way, the wheels will fit. They were 17x9 and 17x11 if memory serves... you want 4 of the 17x9 most likely, and I think you need a spacer in the rear. Don't remember the offset for those wheels off the top of my head though

Re: What wheels fit?

Specs as follows:
b.c.= 5x4.75
offset = +56
If I need spacers, where would I find such?

Re: What wheels fit?

56mm will want a 1.25" spacer in the rear.

contact live1053rulz here on the board... he sells spacers

Re: What wheels fit?

Are you sure about the spacer? I just spoke with a guy over at Factory Reproductions and he said he didn't think I needed one but I think I'd take your word over this.

Syclones and Typhoons both run staggered offsets. They are 43mm in the front and 13mm in the rear. The fronts will fit fine, you are adding approx 30mm to the wheels so that requires you to move it in 15mm = 58mm offset or thereabouts.
The rears are also 15mm wider on the outside, which equals a 28mm backspace. thats 28mm (approx 1.25") short of where you want to be.

As for tires, I run 275 series on 9" rims. You can get away with wider tires in the back but on a 17" rim 275 is as big as you can go on the front without hurting your turning radius

Re: What wheels fit?

Sorry to keep on asking questions but I just don't have the knowledge yet... If the wheel is a 17x9.5 (as opposed to the 9 inch you mentioned previously) is it still safe to run a 275 tire on the front?

yep, the 275 is an 11" tread patch and is optimally fitted to a 9.5 inch rim. According to the manufacturer, a 275/40ZR17 tire can be fitted to any rim between 9" and 10.5". That is the size that was factory equipment on the 9.5" corvette rims.
I think that you could go bigger for the rear on those rims, but it would be difficult to find a combo that is the same height (the transfer case in our trucks can tolerate a maximum of about .2" difference between front and rear for any kind of duration)

Re: What wheels fit?

what offsets are we looking at for the 17x9.5 's for flush front and 1-1.25" spacers in the rear? 56mm?

Re: What wheels fit?

I have 9's up front , 52mm offset and they're flush... so add half inch = about 6mm on each side = 56 - 58 mm for flush fit
