Distributor and Spark Control

I am wanting to get your guys' opinions on this subject...

I am about ready to put my distributor back in, and mine is absolutely nasty. It's got baked on oil residue on the shaft, and the rotor assembly is rusted a bit. I am thinking of getting a new one and am wondering about my options for the distributor itself.

Also, while searching for info on this, I came across a few posts relating to the MSD spark control boxes. I've already bought a 6A, but haven't installed it yet. Should I get rid of it and get an Accel 300+ unit?

So, my questions are: Should I shoot for a new distributor, or clean up my stocker? Should I get something instead of the MSD 6A spark box?

Thanks.

Re: Distributor and Spark Control

i recently swapped from a stock dizzy to a pro-comp dizzy. the procomp is basically identical to an MSD unit and much less expensive. it seemed to cure a minor studder i would get at high rpm every now and then, it idles much smoother so i would say its an improvement over stock, but my stock dizzy had over 170k miles on it. so far i am very happy with the pro-comp dizzy

i run it with an msd coil and a 6a box, taylor wires and ngk race plugs

Re: Distributor and Spark Control

well first off whatever you do dont put a reman distributor in there. i put the msd ready to run distributor in my ty and its very nice but pricy. you could just replace the module, pick up coil, and maybe coil with some new gm parts for a nice cheaper option.

but if it isnt broken, i would just stick it in there.
