What's your definition of "cheap"? Couple hundred dollars, search "LS1"

Not bear or any of the aftermarket stuff. just A bolt on replacement in place of the drums. will the abs unit have to go?

I can't image a Bear setup being cheaper then the LS1 setups, or more guys would talk about how cheap it is to do a Bear setup as apposed to a LS1.

The abs doesn't have to go, but you should loose it anyway since they're junk.

You could always get a rearend from a JY for a couple hundy off of a ZR-2. If you have Z06 or some kinf of after market wheels that have a deeper backspacing it s perfect.

It doesn't even have to be a ZR2. My 01 Blazer has rear discs on the 7.625" rear.

If your talking about the ZR2 deal, Ild just swap the whole axle out.

Re: cheap way to put disk on rear?

you can use the 98-02 F-body rear disk setup that is a direct bolt on and has a single piston aluminum caliper with a 12" rotor, or you can do the 98-05 S10 Blazer tha has factory disk, and is a direct bolt on that has a single piston aluminum caliper with a smaller 11" rotor.

The f-body parts are probably the cheapest, as you can get the backing plates rotors and calipers for less than 200 bucks off ebay, and usually just need to get new pads and turn the rotors and your good to go, also for this route check the GP forum for a solution to keep the ebrake hooked up.

It all depends on if they had a Sy or a Ty, ABS deleted, or want E-brake still.

Sy's require modification.

Re: cheap way to put disk on rear?

OK, time for me to pop in and as a question.. I have 93 Ty, would like to keep E-brake, and for the time being still have the ABS. What do I need? Fbody and blazers are pretty common in my local JY. If I was to pull everything off the rear end is it a bolt up? mods? what mod? Thanks

You can keep the stock ABS with no mods, and since you have a Ty then there are no mods needed to install the 98-02 f-body rear disk, you will need the backing plate with parking brake parts, rotor and caliper and either some braided steel brake lines, or the factory f-body rubber brake line, and you can get an adaptor for like 20 bucks from CBR Performance that will adapt the factory brake lines to the f-body hoses. The backing plate rotor and caliper are a direct bolt on, you do need to swap sides, and put the left on the right and vice versus, so that calipers are mounted to the rear instead of the front like on the f-body, otherwise they will hit the factory Ty bumpstops, especially if you have lowered your truck. And keeping the ebrake is a very simple solution also, some have reused the f-body brackets, but it is a little harder, and the factory f-body ebrake cables are not long enough. So if you check the GP forum, there is a deal on an ebrake kit that has brackets that bolt to the axle housing and new cables and hardware that hooks right up the the factory point where the stock rear cables hook up and then hooks right up to the f-body backing plate lever. Nothing has to be permanently modified, and can easily be put back to 100% stock if you ever wanted to do that. You can also get the right metric end from a parts store, and reflare the end of the factory hardline so that if fits directly into the f-body hoses, but i think the CBR fitting is a much better and easier way to go.
