Idle Problem and Bog / Stall

I just got a 93 Syclone. It has 39XXX original miles on it. It looks awesome. Almost like a new car. Anyways, the car has a problem idling. It will go up and down up and down. I already tried checking to see if there are any vaccum leaks and nothing. The way I did this was by spraying some carb cleaner all over to see if the car would accelerate. Nothing. I've tried replacing the entire EGR system with one from another Syclone and nothing. Does anyone have any ideas what it can be? Also, when I drive the car, it stalls when accelerating. It only does it once during acceleration. Almost as if fuel is being cut. Does anyone know why this may be?

Try cleaning or replacing the IAC valve and you might need a new fuel pump,also you could be overboosing, or you are low on gas and accelerating hard.


also there is no such thing as a 93 syclone

I thought it was a 93. Must be an earlier model. As for the fuel pump, it not it. I have attached a fuel pressure gauge and it maintains pressure even during acceleration. As for the IAC, can you tell me where it is and roughly how much it would cost to replace.

iac is on the bottom of the throttle body and they are cheap at the local parts store, there is a way to test the iac but i cant remember the proper way to do it so ill let someone else post that

Mine has a hesitation just off idle which happens until the truck is fully warmed up. I was thinking the IAC also. Let me know if that fixes it

Well first off explain to the guy that SYCLONES were only made for one year - 1991.


OK, now I am experiencing the same off idle hesitation....AND my Sy goes up and down, up and down on idle ( must just be normal? ) .... but when I put it in reverse after a cold start it comes SO close to stalling .... sometimes I just give it gas to prevent this. Didnt bother me , but now I am curious ---

so im gonna try replacing the IAC today. did anyone else try this? and how would this affect if in any way the stall when accelerating.

what other cars can I ask for where the IAC is the same as the sy/ty's? They dont list it for some reason. At least not under sy/ty's.

This may have been unique with my truck but my ‘off idle’ problem turned out being my throttle body leaking air from around the throttles shaft. I proved this by taking some heat proof plumbers grease and packing it in around the shaft (both inside and outside the throttle body). The instant results were obvious that the ware of this steel shaft against the aluminum TB causes significant ware. My vacuum improved too.

I used a small flat bladed screw driver and my fingers to mash the grease down into the shaft hole as much as I could cram in there. It doesn’t take much and the grease isn’t expensive.

If you question your IAC, the best way to note if it is the IAV is with a tester connected to your truck’s computer.

LOL.....I replaced my IAC because of the low idle-stalling in reverse when cold and it changed nothing. But i noticed the throttle shat has some play so i will try that trick next. :tup:

Remember that my suggestion is a short term fix only. The TB will need to be fixed or replaced.
