I had the dreaded "click click start" problem since I've owned my truck. It finally went out and left me stranded last week and I just got it out of the shop today.
The purple wire down near the starter was fried so I had them cut, splice and heatwrap some new wire under there and zip tie it away from the downpipe. I had a 96 Chevy 2500 mini-starter installed as per the advice on here. The starter was heat wrapped as well and I had the Painless Wiring "Hot-Shot Relay" installed at the same time.
For anyone else having this problem I'd highly recommend what I did above.
I considered the Ford starter solenoid modification but Ive had a ton of Mustangs and Ford starter solenoids are nothing to write home about as far as reliability is concerned so I made the best of what GM created. Hopefully all of the heat protection will make it last awhile.
Thanks for all the help and advice guys.
Next reliablilty mod will the Racetronix Harness and Walbro 255 pump.
