Click Click is Fixed!!

I had the dreaded "click click start" problem since I've owned my truck. It finally went out and left me stranded last week and I just got it out of the shop today.

The purple wire down near the starter was fried so I had them cut, splice and heatwrap some new wire under there and zip tie it away from the downpipe. I had a 96 Chevy 2500 mini-starter installed as per the advice on here. The starter was heat wrapped as well and I had the Painless Wiring "Hot-Shot Relay" installed at the same time.

For anyone else having this problem I'd highly recommend what I did above.

I considered the Ford starter solenoid modification but Ive had a ton of Mustangs and Ford starter solenoids are nothing to write home about as far as reliability is concerned so I made the best of what GM created. Hopefully all of the heat protection will make it last awhile.

Thanks for all the help and advice guys.

Next reliablilty mod will the Racetronix Harness and Walbro 255 pump.

Hooray! I know that feeling. Ive been left stranded more times than I could count - was so frustrated cuz id done the purple wire fix - finally heat wrapped the starter and the wires and no more problems!

the best time I had being left stranded was the day I waited for it to start over 2hrs, decided to call the tow truck (everyone with a trailer was conveniently busy  ) and when he got there, the little bastard cranked right up (still had to pay the tow bill) .

Congrats and hopefully it wont give you any more problems...

Re: Click Click is Fixed!!

The Ford solenoid in an easy location, makes jumpering it easy though. Sucks to reach though the wheel well with a screw driver on the side of the road at the street races.

I've considered this. Having now seen one were you satisfied with the quality? Installability? (Is that a word?)

I can't account for installing part of the fix. I had my mechanic install everything. He said everything went smoothly and the quality was great.
