...theft prevention can be the following:
-disable ignition system
-disable ignition and fuel system
-alarming and/or paging (to a monitoring system or key ring device)
-steering and/or key protection (collar, removable steering wheel, club, etc)
-proximity detector (warns those approaching to back away)
-video monitoring
-sound detection (breaking of glass, etc)
Some folks pull their ecm fuse; some arm their alarms; others cover their vehicle and
have motion detection/detectors.
I guess it depends on what your trying to protect: vehicle theft/towing (best here is recovery)
or parts theft (tires, wheels or stereo), or vandalism (scratching, denting, glass breakage etc).
Then others on this list just "pack" a weapon (which may or may not be legal).
If you didnt notice, the supreme court upheld the right for police to chase stolen vehicles
without prior knowledge of public endangerment (like bank robbers, or such who happen to
steal your vehicle). A landmark case where a teenager in a big full size caddy was chase,
bumped by police from the rear, spun into a ditch/pole, and was paralized from neck down -
sued the department for excessive force - lost, and was appealed. Video from police
convinced the supreme court members that the public was endanger from his driving
(essentially a 4,000 lb lethal weapon).
...anyway, there appears to be many ways of trying to protect your vehicle
(including using custom plates so that your truck can be identified quickly).
