tranny problems, what to do? stock ty. 93,000 miles. will not shift out of first till about 4500 rpms. shifts about the same for 2nd to 3rd. have changed the fluid and added trans x. no difference. when driving in 1st, if i let up off the gas and shift into neutral then shift back into drive , it goes into second. same thing for the 2-3 shift. adjusted the tv cable . truck shifts 1-2 but 2-3 doesn't happen unless i do the neutral shift. stop the truck, check tv cable and the adjustment has changed. do i have a bad tv cable.do i need to clean the valve body. any suggestions will be very appreciated. thanks to all.

Re: trans problem

if the cable postiion is changing, 1 the cable could be stretched or the holder is not keeping it in place.. i had my cable adjusted today, its not hard to do it, but you problem sounds like it could be a adjustment issue , how is the fluid in the trans and the level when running

Re: trans problem

governor is stuck. it's under the metal cover on the outside of the trans on the drivers side.

remove clean make sure the little valve inside moves and replace. can be done under an hour.

Re: trans problem

Do the TV cable adjustment first.
If it doesn't change the way it shifts then push in the button and back it out 1/8" inch and see if the shift points come down. If no change, do the governor like John said. If the governor doesn't fix it, then the throttle valve up inside the valvebody is stuck. Remove the valvebody and clean it out thouroughly with carb cleaner and reinstall.
