V8 project on Ty? with price of ls1

i was just wondering, since i already have a sy and a Ty with turbo v6's i thought it was time to make terrible power, just for the fun of it.

so if i was going to switch to a V8 in another Ty, and turbo it, what cost should i be prepered about if i was going to turbocharge it and make 800HP?

all your advice is welcome, cause i'am just kickng around with the idea, cause i kinde need a new project

its pretty easy to get 800hp out of a sbc. decent sbc parts are quite a bit cheaper than v6 stuff. all the other stuff is available off-the-shelf except the turbo headers; and those can be made by someone decent at fabrication. accessory brackets bolt right up, so does the trans (whether it will take the abuse is another story). after that you just need an electric fan setup and you should be good to go.

just my .02.... but now that i have driven a v8 tt monster, i am not looking back at v6s.

well, the reason i started this mostly is that i just want some new safe power, and pay a hell lot less than with these v6'es. do you happen to have a good link or write up about a v8 turboed engine with a budget build?

This is what I am planning.. I may go with the TRW/Speed Pro pistons though. I know they are heavier but I think they are a bit stronger...

I don't know what your thinking about for a tranny but there is no way a 700 will take the abuse. . I'm going with an 80e..

As for the headers/manifolds I'm making them myself. I'm just going with V8 vortec heads(12558060) and I'm going to use a RamJet EFI intake.

I'm going to run it all with a 749 ECM using code 59..

010 gm 4 bolt block that has never been overbored - $200
forged crank - $500
forged rods - $600
a good set of turbo pistons (je/diamond) - $600
ready to run dart pro1 aluminum heads - $1000
custom cam - $300
accel intake incl rails - $500
tb - $600
machine work - $1500

thats about $5800 bucks for a stout sbc. a forged v6 crank is almost half that, by itself.
then add headers, turbos, misc junk (timing set etc), elec fans, code 59 gear....

so maybe it could be done for 10k USD, depending on how much you spend on your turbo, intercooler, plumbing, headers etc....

If I was keeping my ty, I'd abandon the V6 and go LS engine with a single turbo. Maybe one day

okay i found an LS1 block for sale in the netherlands, actually 4 of them price is $2500 (rotating assambly with around 30K miles). should these engines be upgraded if you want to Turbo charge them?

I don't know about the trucks, but the F-bodies & Corvette have relatively high compression, I want to say 10.8:1 or something like that.

yup i have read about that, but than again, i believe i read some stuff about running them at 12psi or something,

If they are 10.8-1, you should definately get the compression down if you want it to live under boost.

that's for each though, i don't drive my trucks verry often, and i'am kinda tired of bullshitting around with these V6'es and me being over at the other side of the world (almost) it's kinda hard to get all the facts and help i need to do this.

Used Ls1 are a dime a dozen here, but if you are gonna build it get the 6.0 truck block (bigger and cast iron) those can be found around here pretty inexpensive, if you are serious about do this let me know I can find a motor for you, and even help with shipping :tup:

Used Ls1 are a dime a dozen here, but if you are gonna build it get the 6.0 truck block (bigger and cast iron) those can be found around here pretty inexpensive, if you are serious about do this let me know I can find a motor for you, and even help with shipping :tup:

thanks man, that's a great offer, i am as serious as this;
if i can get an engine, and turbocharge it (without to much off a hassle). use the stock injectors and all.. and use a 6.0 computer or a standalone system (4l80E) and buy some turbo headers (or make them myself )
can prolly make an A2A Intercooler myself. and will prolly work around the small things also, use a turbotime oilpan ass well as the frame pads to hold the enigne.

it's not a project that should be finished within a year or so. but i would really like to move on a bit, instead of working on these trucks, enjoy them a few miles, and worry about shit breaking again and again with these stock engines.

so that's howmuch i know at this point, but the way i feel about the Syclone and about the white Ty, i don't have the intention to sell them ever....

i will just sell the 2 other Ty's , put the 2 engines in them and sell them for around 6k each.or so
