Anybody using it?

I want to switch to a progressive controller rather then having my volvo wired to run all the time and the only two controllers I see people really liking is the Delta Current controllers and this Spal pwm controller.

I would have went with the dcc unit since I know many that are using them with great sucess but Brian is a bit backed up with order (three months behind) and I'd like to get this done asap so I was concidering the spal unit but wanted to know if anybody has used it ok with a volvo fan since these fans pull tons of amps and spike over 40 when they turn on (from what i've seen with mine)

Here's the spal im talking about

that looks like a great unit intkhere is another idea...
use a cooling fan resistor (from an early Fiero with ac or a large ceramic resistor) to run
the fan on low... then step it up to high with the ECM control normaly used for the IC pump
throught a normal relay. the stock ecm settings are easily changed if you are already messing
with chips.

hope this helps

but for $65 and some wire.. the controller seems easier lol

Yea my volvo is currently wired to a 40 amp relay then ran to the ic pump relay wiring.. but my chip turns it on at like 60 degrees and I don't really get all the lingo about reprogramming the prom with tunercat much so im kinda staying away from that until I can read it a bunch more or have more time to jerk with it

I was just looking at the wiring for the SPAL controller and it looks like it can only handle a max load of 30 amps? You may want to check that out before you drop the money and find out that it may be shorted shortly (sorry about the pun!) if your fan ever pulls mor then 30 amps?

well figured i'd give a little update on the controller.. Just got it and it looks like it's built pretty good, sealed alluminum case with weather pack connections.

I was told by a few other people that use them that the controller can handle more amps so they have had good results with replacing the fuse with a 40 amp one so I may end up trying that if need be but since this controller ramps up the power to the fan when needed im hoping I won't have any initial power spikes like before and won't need a larger fuse :)

Instructions are easy to use and it looks to be very easy to install.. haven't had time to do the install yet but will check back and write what I think of it when it's up and running.

If possible mount the controller to aluminum plate, or in a position it gets air flow. If you prevent it overheating the current wont hurt it.
