Push in the D shaped button and slide the black sleeve towards the drivers side all the way, then let go of the button and slowy rotate the throttle all the way open. It should click a few times.

Re: adjusting the tv cable

TV = pressure. Although it will somewhat change shift points it is not the correct way to adjust shift points. You can fry the 700 if adjusted wrong.

Just be sure the TV is really the issue, not something else.

Re: adjusting the tv cable

Also as a side note if it just snaps into place rather than clicking a few times it is a sign that you need a new TV cable

It should click many times as it ratchets out. Some owner adjust and adjust and adjust. It wears out the plastic teeth. The TV is a setting. Not an adjustment per say. Once it's set. You leave it alone.

Click click POP. Or just POP is a worn out mech on the TV cable at the throttle body hookup.

I adjusted mine and now it shifts hard as hell but there is a bang from 1st to 2nd shift. Is this a sign that I will have to be replacing my rear end soon?

Probably more likely to replace the trans.
I installed the Fairbanks Intermediate Servo in my trans, disregarding George Blakes advice, shifted nice and hard. Then the trans stripped the spilnes on the rear planet.

Re: adjusting the tv cable

When you open the throttle all the way, do you guys do it by hand or use the gas pedal? 100% throttle on the floor and in datamaster for me is less than me opening it up by hand. When I adjust it by hand softer shifts, by pedal, harder shifts. Which one should I go by?

Re: adjusting the tv cable

the correct way to adjust a 700r is to plumb a pressure gauge into the 1/8 pipe plug on the driver's side of the trans and adjust the tv cable between 60-70 lbs at idle, then the car out and drive (with gauge still installed), at wide open throttle in 2nd gear you should see 210 lbs of press. if it is an aftermarket tranny then you need to ask who ever built it for the pressure specs.
