GMHTP wants you!

Well, your truck actually. They welcome submission of photographs for their "Street Heat" section (Reader's Rides). I was pretty tired of seeing F-bodies in that section and sent Scott Parker a photo of my truck. Don't think it was high-rez enough, but Scott told me he would love to have some SyTy's in the section.

I've seen some great photographs for TOTM, so why not send them in an email to the magazine??

They are looking for hi-rez, 300 dpi or better. Write a few paragraphs about you and your truck, listing any mods or future plans (even if it's to "remain stock" ) I don't see whay there couldn't be a SyTy in every issue. Heck, there's a firebird in each one.

Submit to scott.parker@primedia.com

Let's get some press!!

street heat?
cmon now.

one pic one paragraph, less than a half page, whoop dee.

I didn't see one SyTy anywhere in this months issue.

There are tons of trucks here that deserve a full 2 - 4 page spread.

 Better than nothing, I say. I agree there are trucks that deserve more, and maybe THIS is a way to make them aware of such trucks!

I was a big fan of GMHTP for a long time. I even have my truck in one issue. But the lack of Syclone's and Typhoon's has made the magazine boring. Reading about the same stuff week after week. The GN seem to have way more attraction. If they feature some of our trucks I would just go to the news stand and get one. Other wise I have 6 consecutive issues with just F-bodies. Not worth the subscription to me anymore and I am not renewing. God luck to ya all on this.

Yeah I subscribed this year and I dodn't think I have seen anyting but F-bodies and Vettes. The variety has been mixing in a LT1 among all the LS1's. I wish I saw a few GN/Ttype's. I plan on submitiing my truck next year, once it runs a semi decent number.

Re: GMHTP wants you!

Yeah they do.

guess we better get off our butts here and give em something new to write about. :)

(like an update) :)

fwiw getting published by a magazine or website is kinda simple as i view it.

So far i Have been on Rossler's transmission website,
Tials website....

but more effort was needed in 2005 when i was ride of the month on garret turbos website by simple entering into their selection process posted on their website.

this past summer hot rod published a short story from a letter i sent them
regarding oil pump failures, what i knew and what had happend to me. I wrote that letter from a perspective of what it could do for their readers.
Fwiw the same letter went to many other hot rod type magazine editors. Only hot rod picked it up unless someone else did that i dont know about. however it took hot rod 12 moonths from when i sent it to them.
So it can take a long time to get published. btw, they never contacted me but i did challenge them in the article to go ask their favorite machinist if they didnt beleive me. guess they did. :)

as for getting gmhtp to find my truck interesting.
I contacted them 12 months prior to their decision to notify me to do a photo shoot.
My initial letter told them what we had done, the issues we encountered along the way and what outr future plans were. The editor simply told me to keep him updated.
As we progressed i updated him but never ever got a reply.
When we did the radical burnout that got on the front of the godragracing.com burnout calender for 2007
I sent the same editor a copy of that pic with a email title of "HERES A PIC OF SOMETHING YOU WONT FIND MANY SYCLONES DOING".

I think it was within 1 week i got a phone cal or email from them saying they wanted to schedule a date for a photo shoot.

My point of all this. You need to go out and market yourself to them. waiting for them to find you, just isnt going to happen. Its marketing, plain and simple. You need to get their attention, whether its the words you use or the pictures.

example: my inital letter to the editor said (and true) "we found we were shearing the deck off the stock block on both banks"

The response that came back from the editor was was: Any converstion that includes the words "SHEARING THE DECKOFF THE BLOCK" i want to be a part of keep us updated.

And thats how it all began.

The editorial offices are in NYC. Michigan might be a bit far for them, but we'll see. I think they try and combine travel and do a number of features when they are in a particular place.

I agree with Ed...it's about US putting the word out there, not waiting for your issue each month to see if any SyTy's are featured. Who better than this group knows what's worthy of a story?? Small number of trucks and a tiny percentage of active SyTyers...it's up to us to push these trucks.

The Reader's Ride section is easy because you don't really have to have anything outrageously special.

Re: GMHTP wants you!

Congrats to Syclone Rob...you made it into "Street Heat" section of latest GMHTP!!!

You can give kudo to Scott Parker for "hearing our cries." Not a full feature, but better than nothing.
