Not a Battle Bar problem?? Axle help...

I bought the Battle Bars through the group purchase and love them - great product :D

However, have discovered a problem with mine that should make everyone check theirs.

Every pay Friday we have "hot rod friday" - everyone with a hotrod cruises down to a lunch spot. We got there and the guy following me said, "Hey your truck is going down the road sideways!"

I brought it home tonight expecting to find I had done something wrong during the install. I measured both sides and sure enough there was 24 1/4" from the front of the axle on the right side to the center of the front shackle bolt, and 24 1/2" on the left. I loosened everything up and put nylon load ties on both sides and tried to pull the axle into alignment and then re-tighten. I remeasured and everything was the same.

I then measured the location of the holes on the leaf/shock support plates. Sure enough, the centering hole for the perch plate on the right side is drilled 1/4" further towards the front of the Sy. Tomorrow I'll take it off, redrill it, and re-align everything.

Good thing to check yours too.... going down the road sideways is a good way to eat up a drivetrain on these trucks.

I'll let CBR know on Monday but just thought others may want to check theirs over the weekend....

Re: Battle Bar problem?? Check yours!!

The bars have nothing to do with the rear axle being square with the truck.
The top of the tie bolt that holds the spring pack together sits in a hole in
the axle perch.that’s what locates the axle on the spring.

Well, that's what I thought too... then I measured that difference in hole location on the shock plate and thought that must be causing some kind of mis-alignment :dunno: ... does the spring perch on these trucks have two holes, and maybe my right side is sitting in the wrong hole??? Any other ideas for me to look at?? Does anyone have theirs apart right now to look at?
On mine, front of axle to center of front shackle bolt on left side is 24 1/2, right side is 24 1/4"... anybody know which one is correct??
Thx, Rob

If you start pulling measurements here and there on the truck you’ll find all kinds of things that don’t line up,
There not perfect not even close.
Do you have Flex-O-Forms or stock springs?

I've got stock springs... I did find a nice pic of the perch assembly halfway apart on SyTyArchives under the lowering topic - shows that spring bolt nicely :D

With my measurement being off that far I have to assume a problem with the spring perch location (not probable), or maybe a difference in springs?

This truck went through a frame-off resto about 700 miles ago and it could be they never jigged the frame up and checked the triangulation of the suspension - that doesnt account for that 1/4" difference from side to side on that one simple measurement, though.

...I need to get this thing up in the air...

Keep me posted.

Thanks for checking on this thread Chris...

Well, in thinking about this, I know my truck drove straight before I put the BattleBars on. Having said that, it must be something in my install. And... I keep going back to the hole for the spring bolt being 1/4" different on my right BB anchor... that's how far off my axle sits. Chris have you checked the location of those holes... just out of curiousity?

Can anyone else with the Battle Bars take a quick measurement between front of axle and center of front spring bolt on each side?? Like Chris said it can't be the Battle Bars, but it may be a combination of little things adding up to 1/4"...

To close this thread.... not a BattleBar problem (excellent interest and followup by Chris on this thread).... problem on my Sy caused by re-assembly error of frame/components during frame-off resto

It’s good that you found the cause, I’m shore there’s
some one that can put your info to use on there frame off. That’s what forums are for.

Keep us posted on your repair, good look!
