Boost spike question

Done some searching and still have a Q. I seem to remember reading about boost spikes with a stock turbo/wastegate and no cat. Anyway, I'm running a ported, but otherwise stock, turbo and the JSM 3" DP into a "standard" 3" cat. I'm thinking of going to a high flow cat but would just remove the thing if there's no danger of boost spikes.

If you wastegate is ported and clearance to remove the service puck then running no cat should not be an issue. Not having a muffler might cause an issue since there would be no back pressure created in the exhaust along with not having a cat but I dont see it being a big deal. On my truck when I opened the dump my boost went up 2psi but was still controlled rock solid with no spiking just an overall increase
