Will a GTQ67 Turbo Clear the A/C Bracket?

Just wondering because I can't bring myself to get rid of my nice cold R12 A/C and that's the turbo I plan to upgrade to. Will be a water + oil cooled BB Precision turbo, I believe. My Turbonetics 60-1 fits with plenty of room, but I want to be sure the new turbo is going to fit before I commit...anyone?

Yes, fits with plenty of room to spare no matter how it is clocked

Jeremy, what are you going to do for an intake? Every truck I see with a 4" turbo inlet seems to have either a screen, or no air filter whatsoever.. PTE didn't make it easy for us by putting the inlet right up against the radiator.

Doesn't HKS make a Mega filter that is mushroom shaped that attachs to the inlet? Seems like I remember seeing alot of Supra guys with them.

How do you like the 60-1? Why are you upgrading and give me the Pro and Cons of that turbo. I am thinking about taking the 51 off I have now and adding a 60-1. Thanks

It depends on which compressor housing you get on the turbo and how you have it clocked. I have trucks here with Pt-74Q's and stock AC.
As for air intake we usually switch to a 1994 s10 rad so that you do not have to deal with the heater core fitting. Instead we move it to the waterpump. Most replacement water pumps have the hole you just need to add the fitting.

Then get a 4" cobra elbow.

If you get a later model Sonoma radiator, they don't have the heater core outlet, giving you room to use a full size elbow.

I was able to do that with a T76 and kept my A/C

btw, that link to the mushroom filter, it'd be smaller then a 150mm. It'd be more like a 115 for a 4".

I hadn't really thought about it too much. Basically, I'm mimicking Phil Long's setup, but he got rid of his A/C, I believe. I was thinking I would use a 4" Cobra elbow vs. the 3" Cobra elbow I have now. If I need to reroute the heater hose to the Edelbrock water pump, that's fine too. When you guys say it has to be clocked a certain way to clear the A/C, will it still aim properly into the RPM A2A intercooler piping?

I really like the 60-1 turbos a lot. They spool nice and quick, but I seem to have bad luck with them as I've damaged two in less than 5000 miles (ITS and Turbonetics). Either they don't like continuous 20+ psi of boost or the lack of a BOV is causing bearing failure...not really sure. I'm looking for low 11s now or better so a turbo upgrade is in order. I have the 60-1 for sale, came back from Turbonetics and was repaired under warranty. They replaced all of the internals and it's basically new now (had less than 1000 miles on it before it went out).

Thats weird that it failed on you. I've spun my PTE60-1 in the 20 psi range a bunch of times. Course it wasnt for very long.. And I was on the stock IC with a larger cche and meth.. :dunno:

Yeah, that's why I switched to the water cooled Turbonetics. I think my motor may have thrown some metal into the turbine. In any case, it's good as new now and I'm upgrading to a bigger turbo.

I was told that a 60-1 would put you in the tens. Is that not true, and that the 51 I had now was good for mid 11s on a stock bottom end. I would like to run mid to low 11s on a conservative setup. Basically not being at the limit of the turbo, IC, cam etc. If that makes sence.

On a somewhat stock motor? Yeah, it'll hit 10's, but its going to be pushing the limits of the motor with the amount of boost you're going to need to run to hit it.

With some heads, and a mild cam with a really good tune it shouldnt have a problem hiting it every once in a while. And you should be in the 11's with it.

That's optimistic...I think it's rated around 575HP, from what I remember and I was able to hit very high 11s with it on my stock motor at 24psi. I could see getting mid 11s out of this turbo with a built motor and good trans/converter combo, no problem.

Tooky did run an 11.75 with a 51mm, TC, and Alcohol. I guess I will be trying to get the 60-1 then and sell my 51. I had planned to get Vortec heads and cam and freshen the bottom end anyway.

From what I understand, the PT67GTQ "S" cover turbo will clear the A/C. That turbo is rated at 730HP and seems to be the one I'm leaning toward now. If I have to change radiators to allow for the 4" inlet, so be it. Going to contact Nolan and get this all sorted out.
