I do not think persoanlly you will need to o-ring them becasue cosmetic heads gaskets will be plenty to with stand what you have to throw at it. I think you will break a vortec before you do the head gaskets. Yea ed hess is the only one that i know of that has o-ringed them.

My block is o-ringed with sce copper gaskets.I sprayed them with coppper coat,torqued them down with head studs,then warmed them up with regular headers.After getting heads a little warm I retorqued the heads,installed atr headers,turbo and dp.That was over 2 yrs ago and I never had a problem even at 20 psi.

my old motor that went 9.93 had oringed block with receiver groooves in head.
The block was purchased 2nd hand and it was allready there.
cant tell you if it was worth it or not becuase that block had a cracks @1.5 inches from the deck as the previous owner had run 45psi on it. (not a typo)
I can tell you that with the cometics you want a finish that has a mirror to it. or allmost a mirror.
Any thing less and you will probably have issues. ( i did)
50ra finish has a a mirror effect to it.
I'm using cometics now and since i only have 1 pass on it with the proper finish from a new machine shop so i cant say much more other than what i have experienced.

O-ringed heads....Grove in the block here...I did this 6 years ago???????...Solid copper gasket and no leaks...will run close to 30 psi when tune is finished.........unless someone makes me a good offer on the truck........

I run 30 psi of boost on cometics and Arp studs. I cracked the head and the gasket looked new after tear down. It is all in the tune regardless of the gaskets. Eds right deck and heads need to be as smooth as possible!

I had my Bowtie engine O-ringed about the same time Ed was doing his. I never was able to get the heads to seal properly. Ended up filling the grooved with a liquid metal and re-surfacing every thing. Lot's of wasted time and $. It's not on my list of recommendations.
