Just realized expense of ZR1's

Yeah so I was goofing around on tire rack and decided to check out what the OEM ZR1 tires are going for. Wish I wouldve done that before I traded my stock wheels for these wheels and tires. I have a 335/35/17 for the rears....$412.00 a piece. The fronts are 275/40/17....$288.00 a piece. I damn near fell out of my chair. Its a good thing were not able to drive the other truck yet cause there isnt an assload of tread left. There a decent amount, Ild saytheyld last an average driver a year or two. For me, Ild have em wasted in 6 months. I think if I wouldve checked prices on tires before I got these I would have passed.

I don't think I'd go with the OEM tires...they're always way out of line on pricing.... there should be lots of good alternatives - BFG, Falken, etc.

These were Michelin Pilot PS2's. They didnt offer any others that I saw. 335 anyway. I think Im going to get rid of them.

You can use 315/35 for the rears (infact they work better diamter wise with the 275/40's) , but last time I looked 315/35 and 275/40 are lot more than the 245/50-16's...

Ditto

My fronts were only like 115 a piece. Not sure about the 315's in the back.

Sumitomo has discontinued the entire HTRZ line. You can get HTRZ II or HTRZ III, but neither have 315's. The only 315's available are Nitto Drags $169 each, Goodyear F1's at $296 each,
or Dunlop SP Sport 8000 for $294 each. Good thing I bought a spare set last year! Too bad I didn't get a set of 275's for the front, now I have to search for them.

Damn, did a search and can confirm the Nitto drags are the cheapest on the majority of the popular sites. Good catch.

Yeah, those are expensive..... I liked the Victoracers..... 30 A C treadwear rating. I'd bet you could wear them out by looking at them.....

You probably could run 285 / 40 / 17 on all 4 corners (they'd be acceptable on both ZR1 front and rear rim widths) and are have a bunch of inexpensive options (like 2 different Kuhmo offerings for ~$120 and a few others). But 315's do look cool.

Re: Just realized expense of ZR1's

My dealership has an account with tirerack. I can get those Michelins for $377 and $256. If you want to go with 315s in the back, I can get the Goodyear Eagle F1s for $264 and $192, rears are backordered. Or the Kumho Ecsta V700 for $200 and $177. The BFG Drag Radials are $156 and $151. Shipping shouldn't be but $30 from me to you. I order tires a pallet at a time, so shipping from tirerack to me is only a couple bucks per tire.

Try Nitto DR's...great quality, look good and drive much more like a street tire than the BFG's.

I think 315s are overkill anyways.
Until you are making some serious power at least...

But they sure do look kewl!

Looks are all they are good for IMO.

If you are making enough power to think you need 315's, chances are you really need drag radials (See Jeremys progression through timeslips, and the posts where he slowed down with the 17" wheels and wide tires).

If you are road racing, that might be another story, however if you are road racing, you certainly won't be complaining about $300/piece tires.

I run 275/40/17's on my little red truck all around. It sticks plenty well for the autocross tracks around here!

Re: Just realized expense of ZR1's

Nitto DR FTW. and they seem to be the same price whether they are 245/50/16s, or 275/40/17's or 315's.
