Re: Typhoon or Syclone for high HP build
fyi:
...I always thought Parish`s AWD Silverado was a sleeper (and didn't it have "only" 600+hp ??).
Imagine pulling up along side a "pickup farm-truck" only to be blown away literally. It was a big hit in hot rod mag/Power Tour.
Did he ever crack the single digit mark? IMHO a Sy at a stop light is not a sleeper vehicle (as a comparison pickup).
A Ty....maybe.
Is Hoover 9 sec ex-Sy street regularly driven? What was its hp/torque figures (perhaps another example to learn from for vehicle choice).
Within the DSM and Skyline AWD community I "think" they cracked the 7 sec 1/4 mile barrier long ago,
but the question becomes "whether any of these vehicles are/could-be street driven" regularly?
This would revel the traction limitations/benefits (as at some high hp figure even AWD
can't hook up) and pitfalls (ie turbo lag, brake torquing, spooling and stopping at red light intersections) with 7 - 8 sec 1/4 mile vehicles.
Might be 1500hp is too much for any non-slick 60 foot street surface (Sy or Ty).
Might wanna also ask the canadians (Campbell Auto) who were building several 1000+hp engines (one to go into a tahoe I believe, altho it might be 2wd)
what type of vehicle works out best Sy or Ty.
They do a lot of dyno testing. Course it may just be owner/availability preference.
Hot Rod Mag has a short article about a new fad...flashlight dragracing (like the old days).
No rollbar or helmets or tree - just show up at the local airport for straight up racing.
Turns out its only 1/8 mile, and the poor traction surface makes everyone equal (pro-stockers, pro-touring,
big block muscle cars, whatever). They must run on DOT tires, and be licensed vehicles with
insurance. The author claims 500hp cars have just as good a chance of winning as 1000hp
ones because traction is a problem (and is the reason liability is not an issue) which limits hp/track speed.
This might lead one to believe a moderately modded Sy or Ty would have advantage over massive
amounts of hp/tq vehicles. Dunno.
