Benefits of a steel Cowl hood over a Fiberglass

PUMPING THAT IRON!
Been thinking about it, and what is the major benefit of a steel hood over a fiberglass hood?? The fiberglass would be strong too...and so much lighter. My Typhoon is pretty heavy as it is, do i wanna go with a fiberglass and take awaya few extra pounds, or skip lunch for a while and go with the steel hood?.. ... Need some advice, or input on this matter.

There was a thread about this awhile back... I went with the goodmark steel cowl because with my experience with fiberglass on my previous mustangs.. they needed more prep work and tended to warp over time depending on heat conditions under the hood. My cervini's 2" cowl warped pretty bad which is why I went with the steel. I was concerned about the weight but it's no more heavier then stock and I've lighted up my sy else ware

I've heard over time that fiberglass hoods can warp and cause the paint to crack.. not sure the truth of that but that was a reason I decided to go with a cowl, especially with my custom paint job.

Plus I have a local goodmark dealer near me and saved a bunch on shipping.

Go steel, less problems than with fiberglass. Usally fiber needs trimming and sanding to make it fit right, and you might have to contend with pinholes and wavey surfaces depending on the quality of the mold its formed from.

THere's a reason that gm,ford, dodge and most other manufacturers do not make car from fiberglass. Stress crack show up after awhile also. While fiberglass might be a bit lighter and easier to do body work on, plus not rusting . Steel is the way to go.

That all depends on the brand. My Cervinis hood is friggen heavy, and it's fiberglass. It weighs quite a bit more than my dad's stock s-15 hood.
