Well It Started Off Wonderful, And Let Me Start By Thanking Gmc Right Now For The Ample Amounts Of Room Under The Hood And All Those Small But Brittle Vaccum Lines At The Back End Of The Upper Intake That Just Seem To Snap At The First Sign Of Pressure.
Started Off By Removing The Coolant Lines, Intercooler, Throttle Body, Upper Intake, Fuel Rail And Of Course All That Hard To Get Bolt On The Drivers Side In The Back By The Coil That Holds The Fuel Rail Down That I Dropped And Took Me About A Hour To Find On The Back Side Of The Drivers Side A-arm (does It Sound Like Im Bitching Yet) And Things Just Got Worse Putting It Back Together Because One Of The O-rings Sprung A Leak And I Then Got To Do It All Over Again.....
Around 3:00 I Finally Got It All Back Together And Running Great And Made A Few Passes Around The Block And It Was All Worth It

Im Sure Someone Will Chime By Saying Dude Thats A 1 Hour Job :d

If they were ready to fall a part, they needed to be replaced. Any SyTy unless it is a ultra low mileage original will need to repair the vacuum/boost lines. This should be one of the first thing any syty owner should look at.

ROFL! Now that's a Truthful SyTy wrench post if I ever seen one......  :rotf:

Don't feel bad, the same thing happens to me all the time. I have learned to take an estimate of what a job "should" take, and multiply by "3" to get the real time it will actually take to complete.

PS: I too have a pet peeve about guys saying they can R&R their crankshaft in 5 minutes or during their lunch break or whatever... Give me a break!

I hate to say it but these things can be done much faster. Especially when you screw it up 4 times and keep having to r&r. Trust me, when it comes to working on these trucks, having a system is the only way to go. If its in your way, move it instead of figuring out that magical solution to going around it  Also, throwing worthless, useless parts away is your friend

Get used to it!

that's a typical wrenching scenario for a SyTy.
lol

I always schedule 3 times as long just in case I drop a bolt and then I count on not being able to drive the truck immediately after working on it just in case...

Sounds like you came out ok in the end.

Now thats a reality. I was changing my thermostat last week and dropped my wrench. I have my trans cooler with e-fan right where the stock heat exchanger went and it fell down and got stuck in the fan  It took me about 20 minutes to get it out. I had to take the whole thing off.

I use a powerful telescoping magnet, inserted from the side, down below, near the front sway bar and skid plate, to pick up those dropped bolts/wrenches.

Hey wait until you get to change the spark plugs for the first time. 3hrs for the pass side and 45mins or less for the drivers side. Good luck at least yours runs

I am so happy most of the "factory parts" on my sy are thrown away or sold

I changed mine in 15 minutes or so, A/A with Billet Fuel Rails and no map sensor brackets etc makes it sooo easy!

Re: Changed The Injectors Today....fun

spark plugs were so easy, I raised the front end and removed the front tires, lifted the skirts and with several extentions and swivel sockets it only took about a hour or so...... maybe I got lucky

LOL, this is very true. Having had to drop the gas tank 3 times in as many weeks, I can get it out in 30 minutes by myself now. First time took a couple of hours.

Broke mine and haven't bought another one yet :( Just pure laziness.

Done that with my tank as well. In fact, to prepare for future events, I had the lines extended about 3' so they make a coil when the tank is up. When I drop it down, I don't have to un hook the lines until it hits the floor. Some may think, what a waste of money but hey, no one helps me work on my truck so.........

Like so.

When I had the plugs changed on my '99 4.3 s10, that is how they did it at the shop.

I have a T60 in the way so you have to take out the 3 inch down pipe to get to the plugs. and the clamps to hold the heat wrap are razor sharp can you say ow, I'm glad I have my tetanus shot.

Re: Changed The Injectors Today....fun

Sounds about right! I've got sparkplug R&R down to about 45 minutes, give or take via the wheels-off method.

Any part numbers for what you used?

No part# parts were used unfortunately. This was a custom job I had a hydraulic shop do for me. They brazed AN fittings on there and used braided line. It was a PITA and cost me about $150. But well worth it.
