Boost/wastegate solenoid

I'm assuming (possibly incorrectly) that these 2 are the same thing??? When I bought my truck it ran like a top (aftermarket turbo, A2A intercooler, Ultimate chip, 50# inj, l35 heads, cam, boosted accurately with aftermarket guage to approx 19psi). I decided to clean up the engine bay as best I could without pulling the motor.

My question is this.....The connector (according to engine diagrams I have) for the boost/wastegate solenoid was not plugged into anything as I started digging under the hood and I don't see anywhere it would plug into. There is no manual boost controller, and I was told by the previous owner it's controlled by wastegate adjustment??? Does this sound accurate or does this need to be plugged in somewhere???

sounds like you have a ~ 19 psi spring in the WG. so you have no need for the car to try to control the boost.

if you wanted the car to control the boost electronically, you would use the WG solenoid, and it would bleed off boost as needed to maintain a "steady" psi.

Thanks for that info! I assume you are correct regarding the spring. Something I never thought to ask the previous owner. Is it worth it to buy a manual boost controller or does the spring virtually eliminate the need for that? I was looking at the one from boostvalve.com or TurboXS. Also I assume it's ok to tuck the wastegate solenoid connector into the depths of the engine bay as it doesn't sound like I need it???

Go with the boostvalve , you will be very happy with it.

As for the boost solenoid, if the electrical connector is unplugged than you will have base boost (typically around 8-10psi) unless you have a stiffer spring in the actuator.

If you have a stiffer spring just be cautious if you drive it in the winter months because you may end up seeing boost spikes.

Another dumb ?....how do I find out what spring is in the wastegate? I don't plan on driving it in the winter but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get some kind of boost controller no matter what.
